The X Factor will not be airing this year, after Simon Cowell revealed plans to ‘rest the series’. According to reports, the head judge is debating changes to the singing show, after suffering a dip in ratings. 2019 saw two different versions of the show, with X Factor: Celebrity and X Factor: The Band, however neither commanded viewership that the series used to. And an insider claimed the 60-year-old is weighing up what to do next. ‘Simon wants to really think through the show and how to reinvigorate it for the future,’ the source said. ‘Although The X Factor is contracted for one more series, ITV totally understand the rationale behind the idea of resting it this year and want to give Simon and the team the time to do what they feel is right'.

While a spokesperson added to The Sun: ‘Plans for this autumn are still being finalised and will be announced in due course.

‘We are currently filming Britain’s Got Talent 2020.’ X Factor: The Band aired at the end of last year, with girl group Real Like You winning the show over Unwritten Rule. They secured themselves a £150,000 advance on their debut album and a record deal with Syco. Not too shabby.

While Megan McKenna won the first Celebrity version of the show shortly before this. However, while Simon is taking a break from the talent show, he won’t be copying the format of The Voice or The Masked Singer anytime soon. In fact, he reportedly branded those shows ‘depressing’. According to Female First, he reportedly told a Britain’s Got Talent hopeful: ‘When I see shows like The Masked Singer or The Voice, where people have their back to a singer – which I find so disrespectful – if we’re not careful, people like you won’t have these shows to have a shot on.

‘Which is why I am very thankful ITV have given us the five-year deal they did. ‘Where else do you go? If the future is shows like that, you might as well give up. There’s talent in every country. You showcase people and give them an opportunity. ‘It reminds us why we make these shows, to meet people like you. Otherwise it’s just going to be an ex-soap star dressed as a monster, and I can’t think of anything more depressing.’ Ermmmm, has he not seen Teddy Sheringham as a tree?!

I don't think one year will be enough. I wonder what ITV will do with that Saturday night slot now?

Just get Des'ree, Lady Sovereign, Carol Decker, Sarah Whatmore, someone from Five, one of the Cleopatra sisters and voilà!

So considerate of ITV :side-eye:

The Apprentice should give this route a go too.

The Apprentice is holding up very well in the ratings year on year, though. Even if you're bored of it, there's no real sign that the rest of the viewing public is.

That's fair. I do enjoy it, it's just the same year after year after year.

After the success of The Masked Singer, they should adapt another South Korean show that is fantastic: The Genius. I strongly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind subtitles (which is probably nobody here).

ITV actually bought the rights back in 2015 to The Genius Game but have sat on it.

They are apparently bringing Survivor back (there was a casting call put out a while ago which basically wanted people to compete in a game show on an island) - if they follow the recent Australian revival (where they have been casting half celebrities and half normal people I could see it possibly being a hit).

Have the winners from X FACTOR THE BAND released or DONE anything? I was abroad when that was on and have heard nothing

Gutted, where will Megan Mckenna promote now :eyes:

The AUDACITY of him slagging off The Voice on the basis of the judges having their back to the contestant being disrespectful :D!!

I mean I’m sure that’s just a fluff quote but come on :D

It had a good run. It really should’ve ended around 2015.

I’d say just finish it with an All Stars (did that do that ready?)

mind you, Syco unceremoniously binned most of the winners, and I’m sure the ones who did well wouldn’t touch this with a bargepole.

I can’t say I’m not intrigued by the prospect of strong contestants coming back, if they avoid bringing back shit ones just so they can be a laughing stock again (which I recall they did).

I don’t know who, Lucie Jones, Amelia Lily, it’s a bit too far back for me to remember

basically I started thinking and then I thought about Olly Murs fucking Joe McElderry and I just want that now

I think they struggled to get an All Stars off the ground which is why we ended up with the half arsed Band show

@Diddy did you watch The Genius? If so, it's great, isn't it?

i haven’t seen it! They don’t seem to do audition shows in Japan really. I only saw The Masked Singer years ago because i transferred in Seoul airport and it was on TV

Just trying to think of the last winner I could actually name

Off the TOP OF MY HEAD I think mine would be LOUISA JOHNSON.

It’s all very well you sick bitter pigs applauding this sad news but where will we find the hot new talant without X FACTOR UK? I’d be nothing but a veritable ball of upset filth without my Louise Jonsson collection

GOOD RIDDANCE

I haven’t watched since the Saara and that was only because of HER
