Beach House - Once Twice Melody

And I was SO HAPPY to see the incredible Space Song as BY FAR their biggest song on Spotify. Was it used on RIVERDALE or something?? I literally only know it as a Depression Cherry album track, and adore every single second of it.

I do think Once Twice Melody is one of their weakest songs EVER however.

I take this back now, it's revealed itself to me rather a lot over the past few weeks. So many nods to The Carpenters too in Victoria's vocal stylings on this song, the artwork and having a track called 'Superstar'.

ANYWAY I'm in love. The four new songs are amazing (Over And Over is an IMMEDIATE CAREER HIGH!)

Incredible that there are still two more sets of songs to come! The album as it is is already up there as some of their very best work (of a basically FLAWLESS career too).

Late to the party on this, but Pink Funeral is like some witch house revival shit and I LOVE IT

I've only dabbled with Beach House but I have been enjoying quite a bit from this admittedly odd extended roll out. Superstar and Over and Over are wonderful and Only You Know and Masquerade from the new batch are very good:

Has this track not been shared on moopy? It's bloody beautiful! Reminds me of Chromatics:

The way this album is already their best, and we still have the final set of songs to be released. An absolute career PEAK, in a career FULL of peaks.

Masquerade is the deep down and dirty club banger I never knew I needed from Beach House -

Full album finally out today! :disco: RAVE reviews of course, with one saying it sounds like a Greatest Hits collection despite being all new songs :D

The final 5 songs are obviously out today as a result, but oddly have just washed over me so far with nothing really standing out. I will give them a few more PLAYS.

Pitchfork giving this album a 7.8 (when it's quite clearly NOT a 7.8 album :D ) has been causing INTERNET OUTRAGE in certain sections online :eyes: It's almost like that was their intention in the first place! :eyes: :eyes: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/beach-house-once-twice-melody/

This is clearly a career peak for me. It's like getting THREE ALBUMS AT ONCE. I actually love how they've rolled the campaign out, as it would be very overwhelming to receive all at once, and I'd absolutely overlook a lot of the songs trying to absorb it all. The staggered roll out has been great to give the songs space to breathe and grow.

Over And Over is quite possibly their BEST SONG EVER for me too, despite not really sounding like a Beach House song. The instrumental breakdown gets me every single time. It's TRANSCENDENT!

I’m only just getting into Beach House properly, and looking forward to listening to this album. Is the reference to it being like a greatest hits because it’s that good, or because they’ve been releasing random songs for ages and it’s like a collection of those? …or both?

Because its that good! New Romance, Masquerade, Over And Over, Superstar, Pink Funeral all sound like HIT SINGLES despite not charting anywhere :D
They've been releasing EPs of 4/5 songs from this album over the past 4 months, so not random songs over an extended period which would have been a bit tedious.

If you're new to Beach House they basically don't have a bad album :D The first two albums (Beach House and Devotion) are quite different in sound though. A lot less slick.

One Twice Melody is a really good starting point to be honest, despite its length. I'd probably dive into fan-fave Depression Cherry next, then Bloom (which is where their sound started to change up), then critics fave Teen Dream. I ADORE Thank Your Lucky Stars too, which was released a few months after Depression Cherry and most see as a companion album :) But really, everything is good - even the B-Side collection which features the incredible Chariot which is one of my fave songs of theirs.

I’m pretty new yeah despite being familiar with the name.

New Romance is glorious and been on my playlist for a while now, so looking forward to listening to the album

Extras EP for RSD and out on streaming this week:

Holiday House and Devil's Pool are the picks for me.
