Challenge Anneka RETURNING

Anneka really is one of the most genuinely lovely people on this planet.

I can’t wait for everything to fall apart the minute they leave.

We're totally having a MOOPY SYNCWATCH, right?

Rice suggested the relaunched programme would help challenge stereotypes about the role of older women on television, just as her original programmes had broken new ground in the role of female presenters.

She said Treasure Hunt, a forerunner to Challenge Anneka on Channel 4, “put a woman absolutely in control right in the centre of the action driving the narrative. It really changed the face of TV and in a lot of ways, and I want to sort of fly the flag for women today”.

She said: “Forty years ago, you have to remember where women were placed in television. They were usually either draped over cars as a prize on a quiz game or they were behind a news desk.”

She said there was now too much focus on the age of female presenters compared with their male counterparts.

Rice said: “I feel just the same as they did 30 years ago, but possibly there’s more conversation about how we look, or about how we might be coping with it, whereas for men they just get on and do it, and their image and brand stays intact.”

She said Channel 5’s director of programming, Ben Frow, did not want to update the programme for a social media generation.

“He didn’t want to change anything. He wanted analogue. He wanted Dave the sound man, the truck and that absolutely powered this whole thing. I don’t think it needs updating because at the end of the day, it’s about community,” Rice said.

I’m sure the insurance and health and safety costs and checks are way up these days compared to when Anneka was constructing makeshift roofs on community drop in centres in the 90s.

Wouldn't half of the solutions now be to Google local businesses that can help with what you need to do and/or order the suff online? :D

She can't order anything because the Challenges have to rely on donations and volunteers. Anneka can't just whip out the PLASTIC!

And she used to do the early 90s equivalent of Googling local business when she'd THUMB THROUGH the YELLOW PAGES.

Helicopter fever is what drove me to watch (and remember vividly) a programme that was just a helicopter going continuously for one circuit around the British coastline. Maybe they edited it - I wonder how long that takes. It was a TV special I think

Does anyone remember this?

I think Treasure Hunt and something on CBBC that might have been Ghostwriter, gave me my strong feeling that I wanted to live in a house with a sort of ROTUNDA-like attic with leaded windows or some sort of skylight

Oh well it wasn’t Ghostwriter - I’m quite shocked to learn that it was set in Brooklyn and all the kids were American wtf

That's what I was getting confused about! Ghostwriter was all set in apartment buildings and libraries etc, and I think the sets were quite obvious/fake-looking. Nothing like this sumptuous-sounding rotunda that I'd now quite like to see :disco:

Round The Twist makes me feel sick

Everything associated with it just reminds me of vomit

Not entirely sure why

The only episode I remember had random things being duplicated and then the duplicate exploding in a load of slime that looked like vomit. So I kind of agree.

The first episode of this aired on Saturday evening, did anyone watch it? I hope @Nancy enjoyed, wherever she is ❤️
