Monkeypox

Our first case is a British guy, I presume straight cause the news says his girlfriend doesn't have any symptoms, nonetheless she's been admitted to the hospital too as a precaution measure.

Ugh this really is going to be another thing isn’t it?
If it is, I reaaaally need the straights to start doing their bit so it’s not “urgh he’s gay he’s got monkey pox”

All the experts say it won't become a thing cause it's not as easy to catch it, but I remember covid having a slower start than this.

Well it wasn’t a thing when the first case for x years turned up in the UK, and turned into several, even some of them being community-transferred or whatever you call it.

I think it WILL become a thing because nobody listens to medical advice anymore

I mean it's been in Africa since the 70s so it is a very slow burn.
I was thinking in terms of Europe.
Covid's patient 1 was 24 January 2020 in France and it took one month (26 February) until we had our first case.
Monkeypox's patient 1 was 14 May 2022 in the UK and it took one week (21 May) to find it here.

FFS, why does it happen that every time I quit a job and therefore I have a NICE AMOUNT OF TIME TO GO COTTAGING, we get a transmissible disease?

SERIOUSLY, things have only just PICKED UP after the last one. Hanging about in LAY BYS just ain’t the fun it used to be :(

I was starting to get quite "silently upset" last night in the pub. Even the normally very nice bar lady was giving it all "you know how this monkey pox spreads don't you, it's an up-bum-no-babies thing" and a lot of the "I have nothing against gays but..." business

Can't be doing with this. Just start to feel comfortable being more visible IRL and along comes another "gay disease" and casual homophobia. Exactly as I predicted but faster than I expected and from people I thought better of :(

71. Isn't exponential growth fun :/

Hopefully more straights getting involved at least. I can cope with us all getting some scabs sometime this year if we can at least be FAIR about it

(Honestly not convinced by the "not easily spreadable" theory, can't help getting the sinking feeling it's mutated in some way we don't yet understand, for it to be appearing all over the world and doubling this quickly)

I keep checking the Wikipedia top charts (where the UK is still leading) and it’s really worrying me. I feel that the fear of stigmatizing the gays has led to low awareness. They’re not going to do anything about this as long as it’s only spreading in sex clubs and the likes, are they?

...It's almost like the LGB Alliance is a front for something else... :zsazsa:

Who actually are the LGB Alliance? I know they're horrible terfs, but that sounds like UKIP homophobia. Are they actually GAY?

At least the UK is leading something.

The fact that it could take over 20 days for it to break out suggests that we could get a lot of new cases soon. :(

A bit like HIV in the 80s then
