I got banned from a thread

Sorry but the FANFIC that you had to ban ggggg from the thread because he was stoking the fire and that since then everything has quieten down sits uncomfortably with me, like he was the only problematic poster when there were ad hominem attacks on the previous page. Suedey chose not to kick off...

I got banned from a thread

I've been in the business of online moderation for +15 years and I would not personally ban users in the HEAT OF THE MOMENT (particularly, as established, for something that can happen elsewhere in the forum without people battling an eyelid). In smaller communities like this, particularly...

    Books you've read in 2023

Here's a great review of No Politics but Class Politics by a much more eloquent person than me that also works as a little essay on poverty.

    Books you've read in 2023

RECENT EVENTS in Moopy have made me remember a couple of books I read this summer that I actually enjoyed very much because they reminded me why I have the political opinions I have, especially after what feels like an ENDGAME of the culture wars approaching from BOTH SIDES. I recommend them in...

    The Killer (David Fincher)

I liked it but I was not proven wrong in that it's style over substance galore. But WHAT STYLE. I will watch this man's ouvre of PROBLEMATIC ANGRY WHITE MEN anytime.

    Anatomy of a Fall

Great stuff. The courtroom scenes were like catnip to me and she was ASTONISHING throughout. The argument scene as Phoenix mentioned is Le Mépris levels of PRESSURE COOKER. My only complaint is that they tell us the verdict of the case at the end. Yes, whether we believe it or not is up to us...

    Israel-Gaza War

Why be so quick to call up other people's bullshit when your potted history of the last 23 years of the conflict serves as a perfect example of it? :disco:

Doctor Who - 2023 and beyond (THE CHURCH ON RUBY ROAD, Christmas Day 5:55pm on BBC1!)

What I was pointing out is that he's tried the same line about the BBC exploiting and murdering his dad who invented the TARDIS etc ten years ago, before there was a female Doctor and a black Doctor. With exactly the same language. He even told the BBC at the time he didn't really care for...

Doctor Who - 2023 and beyond (THE CHURCH ON RUBY ROAD, Christmas Day 5:55pm on BBC1!)

I'm not going to COMMENT IN DEPTH on this as MY LIPS ARE SEALED but this "racist" take is a CARICATURE of what the actual issue is (and has always been, he tried to pull the same thing around the 50th when Matt Smith was the Doctor). It's always been about MONEY (and admittedly CORPORATE...

    Strictly 2023

Perhaps the RELENTLESS SOCIAL MEDIA DISCOURSE painting her as THE NEW HITLER may have had something to do. This new PURITANISM is now starting to TETHER into such ridiculous BLACK AND WHITE, US versus THEM scenarios that everyone is on the fucking edge of a nervous breakdown.

Working from home - 2023 edition

My observation from all of this is the corporate world is 90% fucking bullshit of politicking and meetings about meetings and no one should really need to be tied to an office desk eight hours a day five days a week. People are "taking the piss" because the veil has been lifted.

    Frasier (reboot) ft. Rodney Trotter

It looks a MESS and Lyndhurst doing an OUTDATED melange of Niles and Giles isn't going to cut it. Also LOL at the token black lady in the WASPIEST of shows having no lines in the trailer. Diversity box TICKED.

    Past Lives

Oh and I loved the ending but not sure if for the same reasons as everybody else. For me, As a migrant myself, that feeling NEVER goes away, particularly when you come into contact with your past and where you were born, and it's incredibly powerful.
