Not chart related, but I was reminded today that Kate was the first choice to record 'Everything I Do (I Do It For You)' but she turned it down. What an odd moment in her career that would have been.

This quote from the same article really tickled me

Kamen simply couldn’t find anyone who wanted to sing this melody. At first, Kamen thought that a woman should sing this song, that it should represent Maid Marian’s feelings for Robin Hood. But women kept turning Kamen down. Kate Bush wasn’t interested. Annie Lennox was interested, but she wanted to sing the song in Olde English, and that wasn’t going to work.

Classic Annie :D

Where does she live these days? I've just read on a local news site that she lives in Devon on a house about to fall into the Kingsbridge estuary (or Running Down That Hill :goodgrief: ), but I thought she lived in Oxfordshire.

She's still in the Devon house I think. The story about it falling into the sea has been going round for YEARS and pops up every now and then (similar to herself really!)

Living ON a house doesn’t sound fun.

She has properties in both Devon and Oxfordshire.

I find it really impressive there've been zero pap shots of her (or even just phone pics from scum members of the public) doing the rounds. You just know The Sun / Mail Online / all the usual trash have been throwing everything at trying to publish a "Kate Bush as she is today" story over the past few weeks especially.

It sort of does make me think that she probs is a recluse pretty much. Or goes out in heavy disguise.

I just think this “Kate is a recluse” thing is overplayed. She lives a quiet life, probably does terribly normal, nay, mundane things and just gets on with her life. I’m not sure the papers would dare do a “Kate looking like a bag lady” story- she’s too well loved!

Oh I've no doubt they'd publish pictures of her in a heartbeat if they had any, and will have been actively trying to get some this past month. Though yes they'd publish as a benign (on the surface) story about her "VERY normal life" and how "UNRECOGNISABLE" she looks (their favourite dog whistle word when a celeb's pictured after ageing / putting on timber / getting bad plastic surgery) and leave the mean stuff to the comments section.

I always thought the recluse stuff was mostly nonsense, but she's done very well to have seemingly never had any pics of her published against her will, especially right now.

She definitely goes out to plays and gigs. She was spotted at a Radiohead gig a few years ago, and someone I know who is a choreographer said she came to his show and went backstage to meet the cast. All in London.

But yes she's probably keeping a low profile on purpose at the moment!

Hopefully that GLARE is sending some sort of HEX on those two horrific cunts at the top

Returns to #1 in Australia after a week at #2, matching the 3 weeks Wuthering Heights spent on top :disco:

Nice article of other artists fawning over her in the Guardian today EXCEPT for this from Brian Molko of Placebo.

I loved almost all of Running Up That Hill but there were a couple of things which bothered me. One was the snare sound: really 80s and quite generic. Then as I got more and more into the lyrics and they touched me further, it occurred to me that the tempo of the song was a little bit fast for the gravitas of the lyrics to really land. We were already in the habit of covering our favourite songs from the 80s, so I suggested that we do Running Up That Hill but that we slow the tempo down as much as we could without it becoming a dirge, and obviously we wanted to keep it electronic with sounds from the early 2000s.

Who the HELL does he think he is? :StillYoung:

I must admit that I am pleasantly shocked and somewhat surprised that RUTH is still going strong. I had rather expected it to fizzle out after the initial buzz/hype or whatever you want to call it. I can't believe that for the past three weeks I have been actively interested in the charts for the first time in at least a decade. I like to think of all of this as a testament to a truly great song by a truly great artist.

Obviously the avalanche of media attention it's still getting is carrying it, but it's only riding it (and receiving it) because of what you say, evidently. Hype will only ever get you so far.

The final episodes of Stranger Things are out today. Not watched them yet but they've already confirmed another major scene featuring RUTH so it should get a nice boost again next week.

I had a sneaking regard it would hang around. It has such cross generational mass appeal, with the backdrop of not only Stranger Things but the media curiosity with it's revival. I'm sure we're mere days away from Drake and Ed Sheeran releasing a planet conquering duet but I've enjoyed her sojourn.

It will be interesting to see how it performs once it dips from #1 and the attention fades. I don't think it's going to do a Bad Habits, but I'd be amazed if it does a Jesy Nelson either. It's here to stay as a classic in everyone's eyes now.

I'm not that bothered if it plummets down the charts. If nothing else, it has given me a kind of closure with those naysayer friends of mine who used to ask "Why do you listen to that mad old witch?". The same friends who are now praising her for her talent, whilst discovering her back catalogue for the first time but are also trying to make out that they've always been a fan. It's been difficult to resist a smug "I told you so"...
