2019 Eurovision hangover topic (1 Viewer)

What a show and what a winner. I've only just got home and I'm THRILLED with the result.

It did seem to go on for fucking AGES though and it had a whiff of am dram unprofessionalism about it, especially in that shambles of an interval section. Verka made Toy sound a hundred times better than the original though.

I feel like I need to microanalyse the result now. My head wasn't up to it last night.

I think I drank a whole bottle of Prosecco in the interval? Was it over an hour?

Anyway I need some hot stats to pour over.

Norway smashing the televote was a very pleasant surprise.

It was all great aside from the interval which went on forever and had one highlight in the jukebox thing.

The ending was exciting but poor Norway. I don't understand what these expert juries go on because their choices are shoddy.

The interval was a TAD long.

Although I suppose roughly 15 minutes of that was Madonna-related and I don’t blame them for not cutting their own content to accommodate it.

Norway were unhappy with their jury performance, weren’t they?

Surely the next obvious move is that everyone (jury and public) vote on the same performance on the same night.

Norway did poorly on the semi final jury so its unlikely they would have done well even with another performance.

What I dont understand is why they cant start the jury results as soon as the televote closes? It would really speed things up.

Poor Michael Rice hasn't posted anything on Instagram since the result :(

I have the usual “it’s all political” going on on Facebook.

I do wonder if we’re just going to give up soon, though...

Can someone finally explain the VoR and Michael Rice thing now?

It's literally nothing.

cwej called him 'repulsive' in a thread here, which I thought was a bit shitty so I made a crack about how maybe if he (cwej) was a bit less judgemental he wouldn't still be single (as he'd done a post in Moopy Moop that day bemoaning his lack of a boyfriend).

Penny took it and ran with it based on the fact I chatted to Michael in Euroclub for all of 5 minutes.

Me too.

At least it's breaking up the 'wasn't Madonna shit?' posts, though.

Regardless of scoring fuck ups, the result, poor Madonna performance or anything though, my takeaway is still one of the best contests I can remember.

I think the only thing I’d be disappointed about re: our performance is that we didn’t come last on either of the individual votes but did on the combined - despite the fact that literally NO-ONE voted for Germany in the public vote.

I really think they should just get rid of the juries again

Or at least reserve them for the semi final only, where they can even out limited / neighbourly voting from the public.

The night really should have belonged to Norway, but instead it was all about North Macedonia and Sweden, they just weren’t part of the narrative at all and that was a shame.

The voting reveal seemed to work really well a couple of years ago but I just found it baffling last night.

Maybe I'm just OLD :D

Isn't it funny though how they re-introduced the jury vote to counteract block voting and yet the juries are as bad? Still don't get North Macedonia. No clue what they saw there.

It was a fucking racket. I couldn't believe it was doing so well.

Watching the interval back, it's actually as rotten as it seemed last night. Quavo getting shut up as soon as he talked about the Wailing Wall was comedy gold though.

Watching it back, I hate, hate, hate the new public vote reveal system.

Needlessly confusing and weirdly MORE cruel to the artists than the previous system.

GET RID.

This.

It was very cruel, and the way in which they kept going on about how much Sweden needed was very good television but seemed very cruel and not in the spirit of Eurovision (where we’re all winners :) )

The juries were specifically briefed to vote on song and vocal rather than stage show.

It makes sense North Macedonia would score well because it was probably the best raw vocal of the night. Though obviously last night I was agog. :D

They're never going to like stuff like Norway and Iceland, sadly.
