2019 Eurovision hangover topic (1 Viewer)

Just rewatching the highlights. The interval started off so promising. Verka and Eleni :disco:
The opening is spectacular, even if I didn't quite get why the acts were framed as being watched by the originators. It then goes terribly tits up for the remaining 45 minutes.

The local ethnic act was fine. Netta was shit. Madonna can fuck off. I'd probably rank the Tel Aviv tourist board clip above either of them. Get Katy Perry or something next year, someone FUN.

Just reviewing the results afresh.

North Macedonia is the eternal head scratcher.
Denmark massively over-performed (12th)
Cyprus under-performed (15th)
Go San Marino! (20th)
The UK were so bottom. I mean that shit from Germany got twice the votes. Have we heard from Michael yet?

As much as it's a bit of a WTF moment, Tamara bursting into tears when she gets 12 from the UK is proper lovely.

It was nice to see Greece giving her points too given the history with North Macedonia. Despite the song being a bit of a dirge, I'm rather pleased she did well.

"This is just the start..."

Hun no. You've already started on that shit you won with Geri Halliwell. This is a low point early on in your career, which at best will be a learning curve, at worst the sign of things to come.

What's the reaction been to Iceland waving Palestinan flags? Are they likely to get punished by the EBU?

I'm rather glad there was some form of protest so the Israel/Palestine issue wasn't completely glazed over.

The UK has an abundance of Eurovision loons. Is it not possible for a lot of them to get together and start a petition with the BBC to actually put time in to UK Eurovision entries? Or would it just fall on deaf ears. Even if they stopped being a shoe in and had to qualify it would possibly make us put in something HALF DECENT.

It was an AMAZING show last night. I do agree the interval was slightly lengthy, but overall I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would.

Interesting that both Norway and Denmark didn't do much in their semi finals but over-performed in comparison in the final.
Australia perhaps underperformed slightly having won her semi.

My beloved Portugal a true gay storm in a teacup, not even close to qualifying :D With Estonia comfortable qualifier after all, and Cyprus surprisingly scraping through.

France the "potential winner" from rehearsals that didn't come through. I saw a bit of criticism on France for wheeling out an overweight person in their underwear under the guise of body positivity when it was actually for votes. Whilst I don't believe they meant it to be insensitive at all I can see why it as a valid criticism, particularly as Bilal is absolutely not overweight.

Italy were truly underrated all the way through, I feel the show really did him dirty - it didn't even feel like he was the runner up! Norway obviously totally screwed over too.

Once I watched Italy's performance I was really hoping it would win. I was pleased it came 2nd in the end.
I was really underwhelmed with my own country's performance. But at least they tried this year, so at least can't blame them. They just didn't get as many votes as I expected they would.

I don't get the love for Norway's song. I found it silly and generic. But who am I to judge?

Overall the show was great, the concentration of good songs was WAY above the average compared to other years in my opinion and I actually really enjoyed it.

Oh it was Linda Prichard who was Michael Rice's backing singer :D She had SO MUCH more stage presence than he did :D
We should have just sent her :disco:

Sadly her Melo Fest entries were both pretty ropey, so cba to embed one.

Sorry Anna Sahlene, I DIDN'T NOTICE YOU

Looking forward to next year, the Dutch have a plethora of acts from their musical heritage. Here's hoping for a 2 Unlimited, Alice Deejay, Vengaboys, Tiesto collaboration :disco:

I've had to go out into the REAL WORLD, and people aren't obsessing about Eurovision :o

I miss my moopy bubble.

And just where is @Zu-Klara

I assume the mid table ranking of our knitwear loving boys from Iceland sent her over the edge. Poor hun.

Even if they can't be arsed to post, I kind of like we are still a GO TO EUROVISION DESTINATION

I know we struggle by prior comparison at times, but Eurovision season helps to justify our ongoing existence.

And for Chingiz to move into gay porn

Now we are officially the furthest away from next years Eurovision what on earth am i going to blabber on about now

WHEN DOES NATIONAL FINAL SEASON START

This has been my most engaged Eurovision year by some way since 2016. Last year I really wasn’t fussed until the night itself.
I credit that to Italy, Iceland, Portugal and the BONKERS Ukraine drama :disco:

This has to be one of the best looking Eurovision years ever :disco:

I’d happily have Mahmood, Miki, Conan, shouty Iceland, Lithuania, most of the Czech Republic, Chingiz AND Estonia sit on my face :disco:
Hell, in some other years I'd have had a go on The Netherlands.

Overall I loved the fact that it felt like a way more open year than usual, so it was a bit disappointing when the favourite actually won.

It wasn't the best year in terms of quality, but the final lineup felt pretty good and varied with lots of fun (or at least "wtf" moments at a party); maybe that's down to the amount of wine I had last night though.

Hated the new results system for the same reasons that have been discussed already - but are they too proud to admit that they made a mistake and change it back?
