I have some exciting chart facts to hand *unfurls crumpled piece of paper*.

This album gave Alanis her 4th Top 10 album in the UK peaking at #8, but was her lowest peak in the UK for original material at that stage.

It broke her run of consecutive #1 albums in the US but managed a healthy #5. Back home in Canada she managed #2.

The Germans, Dutch and Austrians still loved her and gave her a #1 album with this one, cue 47 tour dates in these areas (this tour bit I made up).

I may join for this! but after SFIJ I'm scared :D will I like this one more? is it more accessible?

HAPPY sounds PROMISING

confession time - I very much like chunks of havoc and bright lights, which the fans seem to hate but it is quite mellow and easy to get into.

I have SUCH a deep personal connection to this album. It was the first Alanis album I ever bought and got into.

I was a hungover (omg really?) severely depressed 16 year old and I'd just picked up my wages from a bar shift I did and I was walking home past WOOLIES and I popped in and I saw the album and all I knew was "Ironic" and something compelled me to buy it with the money in my pocket. It became the soundtrack to what was basically my coming of age summer that year and so even though I know it isn't her best, those ten songs are like very good old friends to me and OH the MEMORIES GOOD AND BAD.

Anyway, you can read the rest in my autobiography "I Can Be An Asshole Of The Grandest Kind" - #COMINGSOON

Every song on this album follows a Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Chorus format.

It’s also only 40 minutes long.

You’ve got time to do it twice! It’s cute reading how Alanis affected so many of the schoolboy versions of you all and also indicates how only a couple of years in music is actually a huge thing, for me it was PJ Harvey and Tori who were tapping into my psyche, which I’m sure would have concerned any fully grown adult had they known. If I were ever to do one of these specials it would be an essential PJ Harvey or Aimee Mann night, that is where my expertise lies.

This is amazing

I can’t be there but can someone please cry during This Grudge on my behalf? Please and thankyou

Would it be blasphemy to say this is actually giving me Avril Lavigne, so far? Not a criticism.

Eight Easy Steps is indeed quite a firecracker start. I find similarity to Smiling - I can HEAR the fake smile on her face as she talks about pretending to know what she's doing

Oh, this verse reminds me of something from JLP, what am I thinking of? I should revisit that one soon really

Very self help but I like it and it's so 'her' to focus on one particular avenue of healing after the relationships she's singing about have gone wrong (this one being self help)

This is cute but I definitely see it as a bit self-help :D Are we getting some RAGE tonight in the vein of You Oughtta Know/Forgiven etc?
