Alanis Morissette - Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie sync listen (1 Viewer)

I have as much rage as you have.
I have as much pain as you do.
I've lived as much hell as you have and I've kept mine bubbling under for you...

Sympathetic Character is a real characteristic (:basil:) of SFIJ for me. This was her wanting to sing in a stream of consciousness and see how it turned out. And of course it turns out great! More of this at the gigs please!

It reminds me a bit of the creative writings we've been doing. Lots of feels crammed into 3 mins.

I love how the vocal has a dedicated track and yet the instrumental sounds like it's whirling around her like debris in a hurricane.

Despite an issue I have with this album being that half the songs just feel like her LISTING THINGS, 'That I Would Be Good' which is EXACTLY THAT is one of my favourites.

I remember reading the Sunday Times review at the time that criticised the list technique she uses (which I love as I find it so powerful) and also COMPLAINING that the album only has three rhymes.

This is a good point but I've always loved that about her song writing! 21 Things... Which is literally a list is one of my favourites from her.

That I Would Be Good is LOVELY BUT. I feel like it should be later and a bit more of an 'exciting' one put up front in its place. So Pure or Joining You maybe which I feel are both weirdly maligned to the end.

That I would be good even if I lost sanity
That I would be good
Whether with or without you :(

I just can't imagine it being in a different order, it's SACRED to me

musically there are gorgeous things happening at the end of That I Would Be Good.

09 Thank You
07 Are You Still Mad
07 Sympathetic Character
08.5 That I Would Be Good

that was definitely much more like it. so far this album seems very conciously abrasive, stream of conciousness, anti-accessible pop hooks, and it's putting me off

How can you just throw words around like grieve and heal and mourn
I feel fine we may not have been born as awake as you were
It was much harder in those days we had paper routes uphill both ways
We went from school to a job to a wife to instant parenthood

OK BOOMER

I just copied and pasted the exact same bit! :D

As awake as you were

We went from school, to a job to a wife
To instant parenthood

See? :)

You kind of have to lean into it or you won't enjoy the album at all, to be honest! It's how she is - yes she was consciously trying not to have the same success of JLP, but this is her raw and BEING her

I see your point! I think she even said herself her label expected Jagged Little Pill II and the pressure of that led her to SFIJ instead. People were turned off. The sales figures show that.

But they're all stupid because it's GREAT.

06.5 The Couch

all the songs are blurring a bit for me :( I do definitely understand/concede that this is a TIME INVESTMENT kind of album

Can't Not is the one for me that if someone stuck a gun to my head and asked for my least best, it would be it.

However I love how TWISTY and uncomfortable it is and that it almost purposefully repels being poppy or catchy.

UR was rumoured to be a fourth single at some point. Not my favourite but probably the obvious choice for a single if there had to be one. It's "nice".

UR is so soft and gorgeous and so much more appealing to me than the last X tracks. I feel like she has a bit of a lyrical or structural formula with these more accessible tracks (see also Thank You) though - what I really like about this one is the gorgeous production I think.

best song so far though
