These Bluetooth sleep masks:

There are a lot of cheaper imitations around too. I generally have trouble sleeping for various reasons beyond my control. Was thinking of getting one of these as the “sleep sounds” don’t really work much just blaring out of my phone speaker.

Never heard of them, do they really work? Because I might get it for someone close who desperately needs something like this.

Yes, I mentioned them only a couple of days ago in the daily thread, I think.

I wasn't aware of any branded ones - I'm on my third set currently. The current ones look just like the ones in the link and are the best so far, but I only paid about £15 on amazon for them. The first of the previous pairs just stopped working after about 6 months, and the second fell into the bath and I didn't realise, so they were fucked.

I do love them though. As I said in the other thread, I find it hard to turn my inner monologue off at night, and having something else to focus on works for me - so I listen to music, podcast or something on BBC Sounds. Anything which is slightly diverting but not too involving or exciting.

I use the eye mask ones in that link, but if anyone is considering them, don't pay the £44 they are charging.

These are mine, currently £16.50 on amazon

Just ordered some of these. I always listen to a podcast whilst going to sleep and it’s such a faff taking out my airpods just before sleep so I don’t lose them in the night.

Definitely going to order one. I’m going through some hell at the moment with more noisy neighbours crashing and banging around on the other side of the wall to the head of my bed. Am sick of sleeping with earplugs in or moving down to the living room sofa.

Thanks for the tip @lolly, I'm gonna order the cheap one.
You can probably get them a little cheaper again if you want the less bulky ones. But these are the most comfortable, and the best at blocking out light, if that's a consideration as well.

I just found out they are 5€ in Aliexpress

I just bought for myself the 5€ ones with free delivery and very good reviews  I'll let you know.

And they have speakers in for that price - they aren't just an eye mask?

You're a weighted blanket fan, aren't you?

So am I, and one of the things I like about the eye mask is to fasten it on the tight side so I get a pressure on it similar to a weighted blanket.

It arrived at the weekend. I love it.

Also love that I just have to lift up the mask and connect it to the TV to watch without disturbing anyone, which is a lot more comfortable than wearing earbuds. Also after downloading 4 different apps for various calming sleep sounds and getting frustrated that they all wanted subscriptions to have any kind of variety or control, realised there are lots of YouTube channels dedicated to the same thing for free which are a lot more effective!

I tried these out and I thought the sound quality was AWFUL. I guess you are never going to get decent quality at that price but they are way too tinny for music. I'm going to treat myself to the Snoozeband ones I think - they have a few models which can be used for both sleep mask and also for working out - that would make it great for when I go running. I'll report back.

Oh, yeah I paid for the actual official Snoozeband Deluxe. Sound is great and not tinny at all.

Is that this one @Ellie ?

I wasn't sure if this one would be suitable for working out - it seems quite thick. Is it good at blocking out light?

It seems that the designs of these things are either a sport band or a sleep mask, and while you can use the sporty ones for sleep, they're not as effective as the latter, and the dedicated sleep masks are not suitable for sport. Finding one that does both effectively seems to be difficult.

Yes that’s the one. The regular one looks better as a sports band. The deluxe has a zip up pouch to put in lavender bag or cooling/heat pads if you like, so very much for sleep.

I have one which looks like a Snoozeband/ eye mask rather than the thinner sports band ones (with the insert Ellie describes) and the speakers are both thinner (so more comfortable) and better quality than the band ones.

That said, for listening to spoken word and not music only to nod off, I didn't find the band ones bad at all for that purpose. If I was using them for music while exercising, I may think differently though.

Incidentally I don't think the Snoozeband ones are any better at all than the cheaper ones on Amazon. If you look there are loads of different brands you've never heard of with identical/very similar designs, and Snoozeband look to be offering exactly the same.

If you can see a brand you'd trust I'd consider spending more, but I looked a few months back and couldn't find one. I certainly wouldn't spend £30 more on the Snoozeband than the amazon ones without some evidence they are better.

I don't think I'm gonna like sleeping with a band around my head, my idea is to remove it anytime during the night, better than falling asleep with headphones.

I didn't like it. The speakers pressed on my ear when I lay on my side.
I'm a side sleeper and I can't even feel the speakers through the padding. I can barely feel them even when I unzip them to charge it or occasionally reposition the speakers if they have slipped.

I could feel them in the previous pair (the ones more like a sports band), but never to the extent that it bothered me.

I got my 5€ one but never said anything. Yes, it works, I've used it some nights and it's ok, not something I need because I fall asleep easily. Sometimes I got in bed listening to something before falling asleep, which is a matter of a couple of minutes 🤷‍♂️
