AS6 E05: Pink Table Talk

I thought it was another great episode. Sadly next week is scripted acting so it looks like we're due a comedown.

Ginger was very good but cohesively the first group was definitely the best. Trinity has really been on a big high for three weeks now. Ra'jah was also really strong.

I thought Pandora got off lightly to be honest, and it's more annoying with her because she's witty enough that you know she could have contributed a lot more to the challenge. It just felt like she was uncomfortable with the subject matter so didn't want to open up.

Kylie wasn't bad. She was a decent moderator and the part with Ra'jah was lovely, and her look was one of the best. She just kind of lost it a little when she started talking about her dog; I liked it because it lightened the mood but it was a bit jarring after Ra'jah was getting teary about her mum.

It was really a toss up between Jan and Scarlet. Scarlet looked better on the runway and had the more interesting discussion but came off as cold next to the others. Jan's jokes weren't landing but I do feel for her a little in that it must be hard to turn her personality down when everyone else is told the opposite. If they addressed it as shades and dynamics being important for performance rather than saying her personality is too much then maybe it would click? I dunno.

Ouch at Ru saying Scarlet made her uncomfortable and Jan needs to work on hiding her arrogance. :D

Lip sync was great

I didn't love this week. It was interesting to get an insight into the queens, but they all performed pretty well and the judging just felt like an exercise in breaking the bottom queens down emotionally.

At this point it's not funny to me to see them psychologically torturing Jan because you can see how it's really messing with her head. And yet again with Ru giving unwarranted cod-therapy to poor Scarlet, who was clearly crushed.

I think if we'd seen a bit more of the preparation, or put them in front of an audience to make it a bit more spontaneous, it might have felt a bit fairer.

I think the premise of the episode was a bit dodgy and could have gone down that route but I don't know if it went that far. Jan and Scarlet weren't the worst because they didn't milk their trauma, they were just the ones who seemed the least natural and who would seem out of place if it was an actual panel or talk show. It wasn't inner saboteur episode in S10 levels of cringe, or CRY TO THIS PHOTO.

And Ru calling Scarlet's performance uncomfortable seemed more because her jokes weren't landing and came off as really awkward, rather than any attempt to psychoanalyse her. Or so I thought!

Eureka didn't really go down the crying route and did really well regardless because she seems more confident with her drag character and had levels, whereas Scarlet didn't seem able to bounce between serious and funny in a way that felt natural.

I loved the episode. It was all very natural and the least comfortable queens ended up in the bottom.

The first group was such a high that they kinda carried the rest. I didn’t think it was trauma porn, that first group was just fun and Ginger’s team was ok.

I thought Eureka or Akeria deserved the win but then Ginger killed the lipsync so I’m fine with it. I even enjoyed the Bianca gag.

Scarlet's balance of "the real" and "loose women" was uncomfortable yet understandable, but Ru not being specific and constructive much more so. How can you think that's okay, even if it's just an edit trimming off the rest, the finished product is essentially humiliating someone after sharing something that clearly gives them so much pride. I feel I've just answered my own question as to why Ru didn't like it.

Kylie taking Raja's hand and them genuinely bonding and finding comfort in each other's lives, words and worlds was priceless and deserved much more praise. Her looks can only get better with an actual can burned to her hand..

Ross reaked of being a mouthpiece, which he has never done before.

My highlight was Ginger's face as she approached the lipsticks and basically saying as much that she was too high from the win to listen to whatever the bottoms were saying to her. I actually would have given the victory to Eureka (which, no pun intended, I don't say lightly) or Raja whose early 90s fashion shapes are as exquisite as her free-flowing hmmm's. God I love her so much this season. I liked her a lot before, but she is illuminated without the villain edit.

Ru’s comment that Scarlet made him ‘uncomfortable’ felt very harsh. It was clear they wanted rid of her, Pandora should have been in the bottom over her. Complete filler at this point and just so joyless.

Didn’t enjoy the episode, found it dull, but definitely the right winner and she slayed that lip-sync. Shame it wasn’t Bianca, though- how much fun would THAT have been, right?

Scarlet wasn’t bottom two for me- I’d have said Kylie and Pandora to be honest, with Jan just above if they wanted three and Scarlet just missing it, but I’m not that bothered she’s gone

Otherwise, not a lot more to say.

Meh!

I just thought... what happened to Lizzo?

Also the lip sync was ace.

I didn't hate the challenge - I thought A'Keria, Trinity and Scarlet's stories in particular were really interested, and actually would be something you'd hear on a podcast in the real world - which is essentially similar to what this challenge seemed to be, and that's a big source of Drag Queen branding/income at present.

I thought the judging was confused, as Ginger played a campy caricature rather than the more personal tone of say A'Keria - so what exactly was the correct route to take? :D
I also thought A'Keria was ROBBED as the winner considering her performance and runway, but Ginger's lipsync and the energy they had together was amazing. Mayhem's final shoe gag had me properly lolling.

Mayhem looked STUNNING! Where was that drag in her All Stars season :D

I know I say it every week, but I really think Jan is my most hated contestant ever now. She was insufferable in every scene this week, and that runway was HIDEOUS!
Put her out of her misery PLEASE!

Scarlet was clearly an also-ran from the off, but she was really, truly screwed over by the judging basically every single week of this season :D

It’s a real shame that they chose this series to bury Untucked behind a paywall, because a HIV+ queen leading a full and frank conversation about sex on PREP felt quietly groundbreaking.

This sounds really interesting, and probably something that would/SHOULD be a really important part of the main show. Ginny/Bimini's gender exchange on UK2 comes to mind.
As its TKB I may well have to search it out :disco:

Sad to see Scarlet go. Very enjoyable to watch throughout this season, without being in the absolute top per se. Ru telling her it was uncomfortable watching her was over the top :square:
Yeah, I didn't get that. They just needed to make it look like someone was the worst, so they character assassinated Jan and told Scarlet she was uncomfortable to watch for being a bit theatrical.

What WAS uncomfortable was framing an entire challenge around vulnerability and personal stories, then sending someone home for not being vulnerable in the right way.

The comments about Jan just felt harsh. It wasn't pleasant to watch him crying in the VT after basically being told his entire personality was false.
It's not her entire personality - nobody is 110% all the time, and if a *theatre kid* doesn't understand that they've got real issues. Jan's problem is that she came back far too early before she could go away and learn a bit more about herself, but we're probably going to see her again on All Stars 10 or whatever so it's not as if it makes much difference.

-x-

FUMING we didn't get to see Bianca lip sync! What a gag that would've been!

I really thought Maybem had that. The phone prank hung Ginger up to dry. For me, mimicking another queen on stage is usually as bad as deliberately walking in front of the other (I did like Jaida doing it to Shirlie Pie as that Val Cherish at improv nonsense was insane even for her), but when it's literally the only thing you did to switch things up that's not a victory. Surprised Miller didn't have anything gimmicky with contacts up her sleeve - imagine if remote control ones were/are possible, along those lines.

Ok this episode was all about JAN :D The backpeddling SHAME, the fakeass crying, the "I'm a cheerleader at heart!! confessional". The bitch knows what she's doing and she will do ANNYYYYTHHINNNGGG for camera time.

I'm obsessed.

I would agree about mimicking a queen generally but Ginger did it with humour enough to pull it off. It fit perfectly.

I have to say, I love Ginger, and I do think she’s been poor so far but this week was top notch. I also liked the touch of tipping her fellow queens- that’s going to stand her in good stead. BITCH AIN’T STUPID :D

I very much enjoyed the challenge and the episode. I thought the better queens (the whole first group and Ra’Jah) managed to hit a level of sincerity and engaging conversation that was way beyond the kind of mawkish manipulation often seen on the show

Scarlet got the tone all wrong and deserved to go

Kennedy despises Jan :D

I didn't watch the episode, but this was the only content we have been waiting to gag over. Obviously, it will probably be surpassed by Purse First Impressions featuring the Legendary Thorgy Thor. But you know. The main show is just fuel for the post-show analysis these days.

I've always thought Kennedy's complete inability to use social media in the way the Drag Race audience use it has really held her back.
There's almost zero reason to follow her Instagram account, which is mainly the dreaded posts of EVENT FLYERS > https://www.instagram.com/kennedyddoftx/

She absolutely shines when the professional camera is on her, if only she could keep that going on her own channels.

Enjoyed this episode but it’s probably the weakest one of the season so far. I thought they all did well, with Jan being the weakest. I also liked the runway.

Mayhem living up to her filler queen tag by filling in for Bianca, but it was a good episode.

(I loved Bianca’s outfit)
