Looking forward to the Diamond League starting and the long season to the world champs in September :disco:

Hoping the BBC are doing their usual weekend highlights but haven't seen anything yet.

Also wondering if the WORLD RELAYS are televised

I’m going to Doha so also rather excited.

I watch on a sneaky online stream usually for the DL. There’s always something.

I don't really understand modern life but are they saying she's a boy without a WINKLE? Or is that a GIRL?

I think they are saying she is female, however has male levels of testosterone, therefore in order for it to be a fair playing field and for her to keep competing, she has to suppress those (by taking drugs) to get the level down to what is expected of a female. I THINK.

More or less. Her status has never been revealed...

I do think that Caster has something that is quite rare, so it's hard not to feel like the decision isn't a protection of female sport, but a persecution of her and her genetic advantage. We've seen so many unbeatable athletes in athletics; I consider her one of them.

The thing is, until the early 00s we had sex testing and a lot of those athletes who were in Caster’s position would not have been able to compete. It changed because urine testing was considered enough to “spot” males masquerading as females or intersex athletes etc. I honestly have no idea how/what changed but it IS a problem- albeit an unsolvable one. If you look at the 800m in Rio, the rumours suggest all three medalists have the same condition (might be wrong word- failing to be politically correct here, sorry!). Those three athletes really dominated for a few seasons and no one could get close- it seems unfair, but I really don’t know what the answer is...

Caster can still compete but only from 5000 metres or longer if she doesn’t take the recommended medication to do 800 metres I believe? That’s too big of a jump for an 800 metre runner.

So her level of testosterone only benefits her for up to 5000m? Confusing

The thinking is that it currently only gives a scientific advantage to certain events.

However, the whispers are that they just don't have enough people in similar situations in other events to legally enforce it in other events and that they will follow eventually. I mean, the fucking throws aren't ruled out, but according to those rules, apparently testosterone doesn't make you better at shot putting. Tell that to poor NADZEYA OSTAPCHUK...

Having said all of that, it is odd that the three (seemingly) most obvious world-class athletes are all in the 800m...

The mixed shuttle hurdles is quite exciting! I liked it! Bring it to the major champs

I’ve spent the evening in a classic finals YouTube loop. Other than Ottey finally getting global gold I think this is one of my favourite gold medal (finally) winners.

Yes, I loved Privalova's gold as well. Despite it being OBVIOUSLY drug assisted. Still makes me laugh that she only ever bothered with the 400 Hurdles for one season to get the gold and then quit :D

She was INSANELY talented as an athlete that one. She had PBs that were international class at 100/200/400/100 Hurdles/400 Hurdles/Long Jump and Triple Jump.

Surprised she didn't try the heptathlon too!

I am getting excited for Doha now. Dina seems to be coming into her own in the 100m now, and she stands a good chance in the 200m doesn't she what with Miller-W only going in the 400m?

I think Dina has to be the 200 favourite but Elaine Thompson has been quiet. Dina has had her best ever season outside of a champs, though, and she always peaks well, which suggests she might just do it.

Miller-Uibo is a class apart, though. If there’s a 200/400 double possible in Tokyo’s it’s hers. I do think Dina needs to do some 400s and get good at that to match her endurance. Having said all of that, the interesting one to watch in Doha for me is Aminatou Seyni. She’s blatantly got a whiff of the Semenyas about her, and, unless they throw her out in time, I really think she stands a chance- particularly as Miller-Uibo can come unstuck in a championship/ rounds environment. Throw in Salwa Eid Naser and you could have the race of the championships.

Having said that, I think we have the next great 400 talent in Jodie Williams. Just wish she’d finally give up the sprints, where she’s never going to be as good as she was as a junior, and see what she can do...

And lo and behold, today entry lists for Doha were released and Seyni is only on the 200m list, where she has only just broken 23 seconds, and not on the 400m, in which she is right up there with the very best in the world and a potential gold medalist. The 200m is one of the events which they haven’t banned the intersex athletes from yet (not enough evidence that it affects them enough there) and although there has been no announcement, it seems likely this is the reason...

Really looking forward to seeing what Dina can do. Interesting to read that about Jodie, I do like her. I wonder if they'll run her in the relay above the specialists (though I see Beth Dobbin has been listed in the relay squad too so they can't have that much depth to work with there I guess). Laviai's looked good though.

What do you think the chances of a medal in the men's sprints, 200m maybe?

Jodie will definitely be in the relay, she’s run some good legs so far. I’m so annoyed she’s still fannying about with the short sprints.

The men don’t really stand a chance unless there’s a big step up. Gemili is capable over 200 but I don’t see it this year...

SAFP looked very good in her heat. I'll go with a diplomatic 'striking' for the new 'do.

Yes yellow hair, i'm liking the 'muma-rocket' :disco:

I think she is the best bet for gold, Dina is looking amazing but judging by the heats, Shelly is just too good AGAIN

Dina can get the 200m gold I think, in the absence of Miller

There was something odd about the timing in those first two heats. It was weird. I bet Ta Lou doesn’t run close to that again here.

Other than that, these champs are a bag of shit so far. Appalling organisation, empty stands, no booze, Gatlin winning a medal (As I’m in the front row at the finish line, I did get to boo him to his face though which he wasn’t happy about- and which others around weren’t happy with either, wankers...) and Lynsey Sharp’s ridiculous 800m when she should have won a fucking medal.

I’m still having a lovely time but, LYNSEY FUCKING SHARP.

Yes Lynsey was completely ridiculous.

Enjoyed the long jump and Hassan's run tonight, even if the 100m result wasn't too pleasing (and the empty stadium on the night of the 100m final is not a good look, flashy light show or no).

The light show was incredible. But all the African
migrant workers given free tickets left after the 10k.

And yes, it was a great 10k and I hate to do this, but sub 4 minute 1500m at the end of 10k is just too ridiculous to deal with.

Silver medal for Asher-Smith. Amazing.

She did great, fingers crossed for the 200. SAFP was something else (with new hair and adorable child too).

The victory lap to an audience of bugger all was pitiful though.

Ah that was fun. But yes, hopefully the 200 will be the win.

The attendance is woeful- tonight even worse. It’s great that I’m in the finish line section, because the Jamaicans there are raucous and fun and there’s lots of banter between us Brits and them. Otherwise, it’s deathly quiet and just weird. Not remotely befitting of a world champs.

WTF at those attendance figures? I've never seen anything like it. It's horrendous.

Glad you're having a good time though Shee.

Adam Gemili always disappoints right at the end doesn't he. He's SO cute though. I wanna comfort him.

DEVASTATED for Adam. He did nothing wrong but just couldn’t get there. I wish he hadn’t entered the 100 as well and just concentrated on the 200.

This champs is not going well for us. It just seems like bad luck and missed opportunities everywhere. Dina should walk the 200 but I have this massive fear something will go wrong somewhere. Don’t let her pull a hamstring or something...

So pleased that it all went to plan for Dina, even if it was slightly anti-climactic (not least because I was watching on delay and I accidentally spoiled the result for myself). Nice to see the BBC capture Dina's mum on a mission after the race to give her a hug and set her off crying.

Wonderful to see Kat have a strong first day too.
