Yes it's (almost) that time again.

I want to post the current (way too early) standings as it's fun to look back and compare when the Oscar nominations are out.

What strikes me the most about this year is the drop in star power in the actors and directors categories. Not lack of TALENT - lots of interesting, up and coming and diverse talent, but a lack of the usual Hollywood establishment.

Will be interesting to see if that sticks by February.

Someone please explain to me Hollywood's ongoing obsession with Jesse Eisenberg. He CANNOT act.

Just seen A Real Pain. How the hell is Kieran Culkin up for Supporting? While Eisenberg wrote and directed it, Culkin is clearly the co-lead.

I hate when they put people in categories for strategic reasons. You're either the lead or you're the support, not based on what awards you have more of a chance with. Doesn't the academy have rules and parameters to avoid this kind of thing?

Category fraud (which this clearly is if he is up for it) is always a point of discussion almost every year. It never gets any better :zombie:

Just the usual Awards Daily update!

Unfortunately it came during a rant from the editor who has turned into a lunatic Trump apologist and blaming all of Hollywood’s ills on the dark liberal left, but I managed to skip past that to get to the actual information

:D :zombie:

Sasha Stone was ALWAYS unhinged, so this is not a surprise.

I’d rank Karla Sofia Gascon over Demi and Cynthia, haven’t seen Anora yet but everyone who has seems to think Mikey Madison has the Oscar in the bag.

The OSCAR NOMINATED Selena Gomez? (Because of what’s she’s been through and she’s still singing)

Actually if you want to nominate for a Horror, I’d go for James McAvoy in Speak No Evil too. Also CLEARLY Hugh Grant needs some recognition for Heretic.

Smile 2 was miles better than Speak No Evil or Trap!
Trap was rubbish, but a good comparison with Smile 2 since they featured very differently convincing portrayals of Lady Gaga rip off pop stars.

I loved Speak No Evil, Heretic, Late Night With The Devil and Abigail. Smile 2 was just somewhere in the middle on par with the Salems Lot film and Never Let Go.

Speak No Evil would have been miles better if they stuck with the original ending! Late Night With The Devil though:Douze:

Pamela Anderson, wow

Lovely to see The Diplomat and Shogun recognised in the TV categories too :disco:

I loved Emilia Perez but a little shocked it’s doing so well outside of the acting noms. It doesn’t seem to have much buzz and a lot of people hate it!

it's because Hollywood is so woke these days!!

Marianne Jean-Baptiste has become the first black woman to sweep the trifecta of critic awards of New York, LA & NSFC for "Hard Truths".

I haven't seen it as yet but she's an excellent actress so hopefully this leads to nominations at the Oscars & BAFTAs at the very least.

Probably seen all these now but just putting in here for prosperity. What a night of surprises!

I'm not sure I'm here for a Adrian Brody comeback. I don't quite get him.

I'm still not convinced this pushes Demi ahead of Madison or Cynthia for the oscars. Comeback story yes, but the film is not something Oscar really goes for. There's always time for a precedent of course.

Personally, I wouldn't be against Demi win but her being quite iconic aside, is the film / her performance Oscar worthy? And yes I know there's been other dubious wins over the years but that's not enough of a reason!

I still think Demi even getting nominated would be an incredible achievement for a film as out there as The Substance.

Right now Best Actress has quite a stacked deck of potentials. Any of the following could get in.

Mikey Madison (Anora)
Demi Moore (The Substance)
Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez)
Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here)
Nicole Kidman (Babygirl)
---
Cynthia Erivo (Wicked)
Angelina Jolie (Maria)
Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths)
Tilda Swinton (The Room Next Door)
Amy Adams (Nightbitch)
Kate Winslet (Lee)
Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl)
Zendaya (Challengers)
