I really like it, but it's not as strong as Rhythm Inside or City Lights (obviously). I think it will get out of the first semi final quite easily.

Really like this too. The production is excellent - as you'd expect from the songwriter behind City Lights.

It is quite one-paced though - they really need to find a way to give the last chorus a bit more welly in the live performance, it just sort of peters out in current form.

Should be an easy qualifier though.

Oh I really like this. It feels like strong qualifier.

Love this.

There is something about his vocal that makes me wonder whether I'll like him live. Still, every second was a struggle for poor old Blanche (where is her album?) and she did just fine.

Yeah, that's good. Vocally it's kind of Bastille lite.

Yes this is very good. I can see this doing very well. Belgium are overdue a win.

The background synth on this is very Johnny Jewel. I'm still interested to see a live performance but this is one of my favourites.

Heard this a few times now and I still can't hum it

Well, how wrong was I. This is not getting out of the semi easily at all. Why do they ruin another good song?

I still love this. He does look quite ridiculous in the orange tassel outfit though.

It's Blanche all over again - hopefully there'll be a similar turnaround for poor little Eliot. The parachute outfit really does need to go though.

And City Lights was a much better song. The best of that year in my opinion. They won’t get away with poor staging this time.

I really like this song

Apart from his vocals, timing, choreo and the two drummers, and the choruses

I guess that just leaves the backing visuals and the electro verses.

Where DOES Belgium find all these VOIDS?

Well it's FINE when the likes of Blanche realise the best thing to do if you're a void is GIVE THE WORLD A FRONT ROW SEAT PEERING INTO IT

Less so when the likes of Eliot are like Blanche except if Blanche was JUST SHIT

Blanche WAS shit live! But she had a great chorus

Actually the visuals were a rare flop that year

No but she was SHIT IN A GOOD WAY

Handy guide:

SHIT but it feels like you're watching a character piece of a nervous breakdown = GOOD
JUST SHIT = SHIT

HOPE THAT HELPED

Now I’m wondering if Blanche could have been improved if she’d been MENACED by neon triangles during her perf

I still think Blanche needed more of a Dan Kitchener inspired neon streetscape presentation. I'm sure she could have inched up a place or two with it.

Blanche could’ve been MUCH better. I remember barely hearing the backing track during the final, whereas on record it sounds so rich.

That’s one thing I’ve appreciated this year, I was worried that the subtly electro backing moments would be lost on stage (for Australia too), but it’s been fine

Why do some songs have to have great verses with some tempo and the just throw it away for a lumpy boring chorus? I’m still not over Norway’s Icebreaker for that reason

Agreed, this is definitely Icebreaker II in that context. With a similar result...

I've...started to really like this. The chorus has a certain bittersweetness to it that has struck a chord. The performance comes off anemic but yet there's a certain charm to it.

This is definitely one of my favourite songs of the entire contest, but even I couldn’t justify it getting to the final based on that perf

I only consider it charming in the 'Bless him, isn't he useless?' sense.

It is a shame, though.

Well, yes. Pretty much that.

I came to FIGHT, I came to FIGHT over you

How did Eliot get selected to sing this? He genuinely looked like somebody had gone into a university library and picked the first young lad that they saw :D

In the right hands this could have done much better, but can’t say I’m too bothered that it didn’t.

I wouldnt go quite so far but the studio version really is 1000 times better than the live perf

They could’ve made it better of course!

- get rid of the drummers
- keep the electro beat through the chorus
- sing the right notes
- keep the menacing triangles
