It's the Flemish broadcasters VRT turn at hosting, and they've announced the lineup for their National Final. These names mean anything to anyone? The replies seem most excited about Mentissa.

There’s the vocalist of Lasgo (who replaced the original one in 2008, so not the one who was the vocalist on their hits) and the younger sister of someone who is fairly popular in Flanders - in other words, all the stars :disco:

Mentissa has had a couple of hits in France and I think she's a coach on The Voice Belgium so yeah, a pretty big name!

When it's the first day back at school and you don't quite remember how to tie a tie:

The first showcase was tonight. Le Manou is probably the best of the bunch and wouldn't be unwelcome in Basel.

Love this one of hers

Curious about the next batch as Belgium are the current bookies’ favourites to win, which apparently dates back to the recording of next week’s showcase performances.

Mentissa's song apparently will be an uptempo which is not going down well with fans. :D

I am cautiously optimistic however! :disco:

Is it her whose the reason that Belgium are the bookies favourite?

is it usual for the Flemish broadcaster to have artists singing in French?
Definitely not consistently but seems to be a new trend. :D They randomly had two French songs I think in their 2004 pre-selection and I don't think anymore until the 2023 National Final which had two French songs of out 14 entries (none in Dutch if I recall right). This year has two songs in French (none in Dutch again).

I’ve heard rumours that Jelle van Dael’s song is the one that got people confident, although it has since emerged that it’s written by this guy:

:eyes:

Yes the winner hype seemed to come from people who have actually heard the songs, and as hysterical as it may have been presumably it could have been any of the four, not necessarily the “big” name.

Clips of the final four. Mentissa sounds great, but I suspect Red Sebastian is the one who's got the betting markets hyped...

Second batch in full

I'm not sure it quite justifies Belgium being first in the odds, but Strobe Lights would certainly be a tasty addition to the lineup. Desolee is very catchy too, if a bit insubstantial. Gloria is... reign it in a bit love. :zombie:

If they can attach an impressive performance concept to Strobe Lights, I don't think that could be ruled out of the win at ALL

Just IMAGINE it song 21 on the night four pints in

I like Strobe Lights much more hearing it in full (and the studio version). The clip was all look at me, big note but there is more to it than that.

Desolee is such a joy. Bless her though, she sounds too exhausted to go for the big notes at the end.

Definitely here for both Strobe Lights and Monster, but it's hard to trust the Flemish audience after they were gaslit by the "expert jury" into voting for both O Julissi (:zombie:) and Mother (:zombie::zombie::zombie:) as "clear winners" :eyes:

I think there's an increasingly strong argument from their recent entries for Belgium (in particular Flanders) as the gayest nation in Europe after the UK. Red Sebastian would only confirm this.

Listening to the studio versions of these and it’s not actually a bad selection.

Gloria is a fucking LONG 3 minutes though, good grief.
