Can we get a list of who is a TERF and who is a trans ally? (1 Viewer)

What the fuck ARE you on about then love? If it's Imane Khelif, she WAS born female and did not go through male puberty.

So disappointing, I always liked her... maybe she's had one too many hits to the head 🙄

Tracey Edwards, an around the world sailor, follows me on Twitter and for some reason we've exchanged a fellow DMs. I had my suspicions about her for a while. I saw her fully supporting Adams this morning. I messaged her and said "She was born a woman", she replied "No he wasn't".

No one has evidence either way, so I guess everyone is such sticking to their guns.

I don’t think she says anything unreasonable? If you watch the clip she says that it’s a sensitive issue and the biological facts are more complex than what’s being presented on social media.

But of course the clickbait on social media ignores all that.

Yeah we should draw a distinction between those genuinely concerned about competitors having an unfair advantage and those who just use it as an excuse to further their TERF agenda. The fact the latter have gone from misgendering trans women to misgendering cis women as well... christ, just PUT THE CUNTS DOWN

Forgive my ignorance by the way, but I thought boxing was organised into weight classes for men and women precisely to avoid these kinds of mismatches?

How did these two end up competing if one is supposedly so much larger and stronger than the other?

She isn’t actually larger and stronger at all but the terfs are just ignoring this.

The Olympics controversy is just exactly the same problem that people have had for years about women who they don’t think are sufficiently feminine. It’s exactly the same thing as was thrown at Fatima Whitbread, the Williams sisters and any number of others. Quite a lot of the victims are people of colour, so we can probably add racist to whatever the fuck else is wrong with these people.

Is she even a MAYBE? I believe her track record is good, and she's basically saying it's complicated. Which the sport question, absolutely is (although not in this case).

I know we’d all love our Labour politicians to tell JKR to STFU live on air, but we do have to live in the REAL WORLD.

"uncomfortable watch" and "a lot of women have concerns" without any measure of support or even regard for transgender people, or even the cis athletes being smeared, doesn't sit right with me at all.

Show some leadership and challenge that narrative please and thank you. Until then you're doing more harm than good by legitimising the TERF position

She literally said it was more complex than the TERFs were presenting it!

In fairness, Lisa Nandy was on Talk TV the other week saying she'd read the Cass review and it recommends a ban of puberty blockers (it doesn't), so maybe she's just making things up as she goes along.

Come on GNL I know we’d all like our Labour politicians to read and comprehend things but we have to live in the REAL WORLD.

This is where the point of plausible deniability fades. Attacking and demanding the exclusion of people who have been born with intersex conditions is pure fascism, nothing more.

The point I'm trying to make (poorly, evidently!) is that Nandy's stated aim on day one was to calm down the culture wars. Now, predictably, people on both sides of the argument have twisted that to mean "SHE PROMISED TO SAY EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT EVERY ISSUE AND NOW LOOK!!!!!"

I agree that she could have gone a bit further in what she said, and it's disappointing to hear her use a dog whistle like 'biology matters' in that interview above, but if she'd come out and flatly said "There's no controversy here" can you even begin to imagine how much fuel she would have added to the fire?

I just wish we could all move away from this constant state of Twitter-fuelled gotcha discourse and actually make space for measured discussions. In that spirit, I do have empathy for the position Lisa Nandy is in when she's called up to react to stuff like this. I can't imagine Kemi Badenoch would have said anything remotely so measured.

So are you saying it is better to use dog whistles than to set out a morally defensible position and try and convince others of its merits?

I believe elite sports is a separate discussion, and we shouldn't label anyone a TERF based on their stance on this topic.

There are many ways for organizers of amateur sports to be inclusive. However, the elite level presents a different set of challenges. For instance, I cannot think of a single trans man who has been competitive at the World Championship level, whereas there are many trans women who are. Most trans women possess higher lean body mass, which naturally provides an advantage in terms of physical strength.

Imane Khelif isn’t trans though.
