I'm conflicted about the Commonwealth games. Anything so fundamentally royal family (and indeed EMPIRE) adjacent should be wiped from the face of the earth, along with the existence of a British royal family itself, BUT... I do like there being a mini, shitter Summer Olympics to break up the wait for the real thing. The best thing would be a rebrand, and tbh it does feel like the Commonwealth Games can't continue long-term in its current form.

The Eurovision Sport Contest - taking place every four years, for the countries of Europe plus Aus/NZ (and all the formerly colonised countries who still lick the boot of the Commonwealth) - would be a brilliant replacement, and a lot more popular

As an aside, if Australia doesn't want sport at its COMMONWEALTH GAMES, then it does NOT deserve sport at its OLYMPIC GAMES and the IOC should award the 2032 games elsewhere

Kind of annoyed about this- it’s time to just put a pin in it, I think. Politically and ethically for one thing. I do think this is a perfect excuse to get rid without actually admitting to those things.

The only way it’s going to work in the future is if it becomes a permanent UK- based competition. We have the support to turn up and make it make money.
