Last nights episode was fantastically done. Knife crime is a real problem right now and I think Corrie played out this story to perfection although it was very sad. :(

Also let’s discuss the current Corrie situation. I am reading rumours that they are going to do a massive cull this year of all the deadwood.

Gail, Eileen and now Evelyn are all leaving. I think Evelyn is only leaving for a short time, but when she returns she does not want to be a main character.

Colson thingy from CBB is going too I just saw

Sally Ann Matthews who plays Jenny has also spoken out in a YouTube Q&A that she doesn’t know when she will next be needed or something. I don’t think this is the first time she has slagged off the show on social media so I wouldn’t be surprised if she is gone shortly too.

To be honest they could do with a massive cull and complete refocus of the show, I’ve not watched in a bit because it just doesn’t feel like Corrie anymore.

My mum is upset about Kevin Webster's sister being written out. That's all I have to add.

It has been awful for a while with small glimmers of old Corrie throughout but I must admit I watch out of habit mostly these days.

Yes! I forgot about Debbie! She is an amazing character and would not be one I was getting rid of at all. She is getting killed off this year at some point with an Alzheimer’s storyline. She has shown no signs of Alzheimer’s up to this point though so I am assuming the storyline is going to be somewhat RUSHED.

Chesney, Sean, The Baileys (keep Dee Dee), Bobby, Yasmeen and her partner should be first out.

What happened to AGGY the Bailey mother? She just disappeared about 2 years ago.

This is just off the top of my head. I’m sure if I looked at the cast I would probably be getting rid of about half of them.

Soaps are always SO bad for this. They want to tick off dementia/Alzheimer's but they don't want to ever tackle what is often the longterm reality of it, so they'll have a character be diagnosed and succumb pretty quickly and then, to avoid having a character with dementia for years, they'll either go down the assisted suicide route (unlikely here, as Corrie have just done that) or have them die in some way that's loosely connected to the dementia. i.e. go out in the night and catch a chill / get hit by a car.

The best attempt I can recall was Ashley in Emmerdale. They kept that one going for almost two years and he died at home.

Which I get really. That's perhaps the max before your more fickle audience start complaining of drawn-out storylines, shout "this is supposed to be entertainment!", and lose engagement.

I have less hope for Corrie, as already this feels more like a budget cut than anything.

Can anyone find the Sally Ann Matthews YouTube Q&A where she is apparently drunk and rips in to ITV/Corrie I have only read about it but can’t find the video?

That's definitely another nail in Sally Ann Matthews' coffin as well

I thought the same. Her and Daisy are a great double act, but I think they haven’t been used near enough since they have taken over The Rovers. I think they need to cull the scriptwriter’s whilst they are at it.

Completely agree. Jenny in particular has been remarkably absent for the pub landlady. Daisy works well in the pub, but is totally wasted on repetitive love triangles with Daniel (another potentially interesting character being given utter dross).

We need more of THIS

He fucking should feel grateful. By rights he'd have been axed decades ago.

I catch this every now and then when I visit my parents and I find that Dee Dee is the only character to have been properly integrated into the cast from that family. The others are just surplus to requirements.

SURELY she was ready to get axed anyway if they are wanting rid of DEADWOOD.

Oh I like Yasmeen. She might have become boring of late, but when she gets a good storyline she's great

Coronation Street in NAME ONLY. I remember thinking 2005 was bad but it was golden compared to now! It's such a different show nowadays, I can't see it ever being great again

I hate all the police stuff it's too much. I just want 2002 - 2004 Corrie back, what a great era

Loving Debbie vs Leanne! :disco: Such a shame they are writing Debbie out, she is a real treat to watch! What are they thinking

Also really loved the scenes with Leanne and Steve the other night

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are cutting down to five 30 minute episodes a week. I think that it is a great idea but would probably have cut the amount of episodes a week back down to three per week.

Does that mean that neither of them will be scheduled directly against EastEnders now?
