Similar idea to the Tori Amos poll, these first two solo records are both fabulous albums. Again she has other great records, notably (for me) Homogenic but go beyond the fanbase and if anyone could name or hum a Bjork song it would be from one of these albums which is why I chose them.

DEBUT
81IINzg+itL._AC_UY218_.jpg

UK #3 (79 weeks on chart). Five top 40 singles. Human Behaviour #36, Venus As A Boy #29, Play Dead #12, Big Time Sensuality #17, Violently Happy #13

POST
81AHAeu-ikL._AC_UY218_.jpg

UK #2 (46 weeks on chart). Six top 40 singles. Army Of Me #10, Isobel #23, It's Oh So Quiet #4, Hyperballad #8, Possibly Maybe #13, I Miss You #36

Post by a country mile (although I really, really love her cover of Like Someone In Love).

Oh interesting. It's Oh So Quiet REALLY ruins the flow on Post for me, and it irritates me having to skip it every time I go to listen to it :D I actually have a few issues with the Post tracklist. The tracks are either SUPER LOUD (Army Of Me, I Miss You, Enjoy) or SUPER QUIET (Headphones, You've Been Flirting, Cover Me) with not much in the middle. I'd quite like it to be split into LOUD and QUIET sides.

A lot of Debut is great for the first sunny day of the year - Crying (THE GREAT LOST BJORK SINGLE) in particular. It's all a bit more immature, but so much fun. Come To Me is still one the finest tracks in her canon (the Vulnicura Live version in particular is STUNNING!).

I think Iove both equally tbh. Perhaps Post edges it as it contains Hyperballad, Possibly Maybe and Headphones.

Lets have an album rank. I've really come to appreciate whole discography over the past few years following her return to form on Vulnicura.

<these two are basically equal, and change depending on season>
Homogenic
Vespertine
-
Vulnicura
Utopia
-
Post
Debut
Medúlla
-
Volta
Selma Songs*
Biophilia

*I actually love this, but it's too brief to really be considered alongside the albums above it.

I also LOVE her live albums. Vespertine at Royal Opera House is ESSENTIAL. The Homogenic and Vulnicura albums are amazing too. I do wish she'd released one from the Medúlla period, as some of her live shows at that time with voice only were really interesting.

Post because Hyperballad.

Homogenic and Vespertine are her two best albums from end-to-end but Debut and Post both have plenty of high spots.

Oh god I may just have to spend the day in bed working my way through her ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY.

I did that the other day or what I have of it. I decided whilst working from home to go through my collection A-Z during my shifts so I’m on the Bs right now. Yesterday turned into Blondie day.

I think Post has higher heights, but Debut flows better as a whole album. TOUGH

:enya:1. Debut
2. Vespertine
3. Homogenic
4. Post
5. Selmasongs
6. Vulnicura
7. Volta
8. Medulla (which is APPALLING)

I haven’t heard the others. Given up.

Spare yourself Biophilia for God’s sake. The WHO have classified listening to that as SELF-HARM!

I actually don’t think I’ve managed to sit through Biophollia once in my life.

I own Biophilia. It cost £3 in an HMV sale and has yet to be removed from its shrinkwrap, such is its reputation!

Medulla is indeed absolute cobblers. More than that, it's the moment when the execution of the overall idea became more important to her than the value of the results and, therefore, the point at which her decline became irreversible.

(Yes, there's some good stuff on Vulnicura but she's still not hitting the heights of that first run)

That sums it up SO well. There’s times when it’s just unlistenable WAILING for the sake of just WAILING.

I understand the point and I appreciate the sentiment but ever since Medulla came out if I want a proper laugh I just play “Ancestors” to someone in po-faced earnest and wait for their reaction

Anyway, Debut for me because the youthful excitement and energy is just so charming. “The Anchor Song” makes me cry in the right mood.

Well, exactly. I'm sure this would have 20 or 30 people wetter than a otter's pocket in a provincial arts centre on a Wednesday night but come on, give us a choon!

Are there any tracks worth investigating, in the last 15/20 years?

I was aware she went badly off the boil and never checked again.

I detest the phrase, but that really is SO BAD IT'S GOOD.

Even as a self-confessed LOON, I can't really defend Biophilia :D It really has nothing essential on it, Mutual Core and Crystalline at a push.

However I maintain that Medúlla is beautiful and misunderstood. Ancestors is a comedy classic, but Desired Constellation, Triumph Of A Heart, Where Is The Line, Who Is It, Pleasure Is All Mine and Mouth's Cradle are all Bjork classics for me.

Vulnicura is achingly beautiful. The sequence of Stonemilker - Notget is the best her in whole discography.

Actually LOADS! Whilst she's been uncommercial she never really completely fell of a cliff like Tori Amos did.

From Volta -
Wanderlust, Innocence, the Modeselektor remix of Dull Flame:

From Vulnicura -
Stonemilker, Lion Song, Notget + Black Lake is you want a brooding, minimal 10 minute epic about your heart being ripped out :D (personally I DO! :disco: )

From Utopia -
Saint, Future Forever, Lossss, Sue Me!, The Gate (and it's VIDEO), serpentwithfeet remix of Blissing Me, Kelly Lee Owens remix of Arisen My Senses.

Earth Intruders had my hopes up for Volta only for them to be cruelly dashed. That album (the edition I got) has the most irritating album cover in history.

The Soft Pink Truth mix of Its In Our Hands is one of my favourite ever things from her.

Earth Intruders is magnificent. Which is, as you says, why Volta was such a crushing disappointment.

Volta was such a ridiculous era. The 5 singles (Earth Intruders / Innocence / Wanderlust / Declare Independence / Dull Flame) are all individually BRILLIANT, with really strong remix packages, videos and photography then the rest of the album is mainly Bjork singing reasonably tunelessly over a bunch of horns :D The disconnect was so weird.

I maintain that Wanderlust is one of her all-time best songs and videos -

Although I did enjoy her on her Volta tour in China shouting TIBET TIBET at the end of Declare Independence.

It’s not a song I’d ever listen to again but it was quite the joy live

I adore Wanderlust

I am quite obsessed with seeing her live. She seems to get better and better. Cornucopia last year in Brussels was a FUCKING GAG!

My favourite magazine cover ever. Wasn't sure whose thread to put it in. Someday they should do a reunion edition.

I can’t help but feel a reunion shot would reflect very poorly on ole’ PLASTIC TORI
