Obviously with shit going on right, new music releases are likely to going to be heavily disrupted. This is a bit of a continued conversation from the Dua Lipa topic.

The one hope is that this is a prime opportunity to open archives.

With less touring and promo opportunities, more bands/artists might actually record new music

Obvs those with home studios only :side-eye:

This will however kill off the physical once and for all :(

We might finally get that Rihanna album.

This is the problem, most current decent music won't be. More like cunts such as U2. I mean even if that's the case, they need to be producer, sound engineer, keyboardist and singer all rolled into one. Its gonna be a dry period. Although online collaborations are possible.

If you can't get physical product out to the shops, people don't have an incentive to make it. The knock on will therefore be seen when we get into the summer, after the backlog has been cleared.

The two main EU plants used by smaller labels for vinyl and CDs - GZ Media and Monotype are both open for business, I don't know about UK companies like Key.

My adventures in weird 1960s electronica is gonna take an even deeper dive at this rate.

I suspect we'll see quite a few live albums...Father John Misty dropped one on Bandcamp last night as a fundraiser for a Covid-19 hardship fund that's been set up for musicians, an excellent gesture. But one he can make because he's not completely bound to a label.

I'm almost miffed that Charli XCX is doing little webchats rather than making a new mixtape ("I3olation"?) but maybe her anxiety doesn't breed creativity. I know mine doesn't.

I've dabbled. I forget the names to be honest, it's not a current endeavor.

Delia Derbyshire, Daphne Oram, Tod Dockstader. 3 real innovators for you there.

I take it Record Store Day has been binned?

Ambitious to think we’ll be out of it by then, but I’m sure the stores could be doing with the trade by then

So Gaga has delayed. I get it but also fuck off. Millions of people would APPRECIATE THAT RIGHT NOW.

There's also the fact that the records will already be pressed and sat in a warehouse. They are gonna get sold one way or the other.

Reissue of one of The Fall's very worst albums delayed from April 24th to May 22nd. So not all bad.

My music buying habit has been getting a bit ridiculous lately but a new music (and physical) drought is not a welcome prospect.

Well Steps were meant to be on The One show on Friday, what I assumed would be the launch of the single and then he album to follow.

I imagine that’s all inevitably delayed. A new Steps album would oddly go down a treat in these times.

So record store day is tomorrow?

Hoping for Robyn and that’s about it tbh

Oh wait is Robyn just a bunch of remixed songs rather than the album?

I’m not sure I can be bothered with that :D
