The crowd over at popjustice who normally go "slay Tamta queen of Cyprus my wig flew etc" suddenly raving about this left field type of music- I just don't buy it. It must be a Eurovision conspiracy.

In terms of the song itself Mahmood (and to a lesser extent Conan) are streets ahead for me - the rest for is all firmly fun for Eurovision territory.

Like I said, I've never come anywhere near having 9 of my top 10 men. It's definitely a strong field for men this year.

I hear ya

I've tried doing it a few times, and probably about half the tracks I either don't remember or simply don't care enough about to rate against anything else equally nondescript.

I'd end up with a top 10, a bottom 5 or so, and everything in between would be pretty much entirely arbitrary.

I don't know if it's some kind of autistic trait but I can do this with literally anything. I can rank my entire team at work, supermarkets, pairs of jeans or Game of Thrones characters without any difficulty at all. Same with these. I only need to hear a few seconds of a song to remind myself whether it's better or worse than another.

Turning out to be a pretty shitty year, normally I keep almost all the entries in my library, but I'm only looking at the top 20 at the moment Kind of surprising, so I hope there's some great perfs and staging to sell the shit out of the rest.

Especially confounding are the favourites this year - usually some of them are just ones I think are alright but don't particularly win. This year they range from indifference (Netherlands) to straight up not really liking (Italy, Iceland). Some of the bottom table might represent something good for the LGBTQ+etc community but the tunes just aren't there. I was really hoping to like France for example, but... meh! I mean Jesus, how is San Marino in my top 10? It's not like my Valentina bias is in play.
