I can cope with San Marino qualifying. It's the sort of delightful old shit that all too often gets booted out in the semis so most people never get to hear it. Serbia and Estonia will be the two that piss me off.
 
I'm happy San Marino got through as it'll presumably keep them going for a while. They are Eurovision's most delightful wildcards. Must have been a televote save though.
 
I mean, surely Serhat must be in with a chance of a few points from the UK public. I really hope he performs significantly better than we do ourselves.

Hungary's NQ breaks their record for longest unbroken run of finals appearences, which they shared with Sweden. So if/when Sweden qualify tomorrow, they'll officially be the best performing non Auto-qualifier. Ukraine still the only country never to have NQ'd, but obviously they've missed a few Contests.

If North Macedonia and Switzerland qualify tomorrow, the record for longest run of NQs will go to Montenegro, last seen in 2015.

He really played up the Turkish angle, which I suspect gave him quite a boost. I think 0 from the juries is entirely possible, but he could get a reasonable televote if the diaspora turns up.

I very much expect them to. I know the song isn't everyone's favourite but it's the best raw vocal in the entire competition IMO. And for once their staging isn't a complete dog's dinner.

She's currently 7th favourite to qualify in the betting - ahead of Norway, Armenia and Denmark.

I was going to say the Turkish thing must have turned a few heads, but it was a laugh and FINALLY well staged (I loved the staging for Vola though)
 
In terms of predictions or bookies odds, was Portugal not qualifying surprising?

I assume San Marino going through wasn't predicted.

Most people I've been following weren't expecting Portugal to get through, particularly since rehearsals started

Pretty sure it was outside the 10 with the bookies as well
 
I do love how polarising Portugal is. You really don't get anything other than "ART" or "what a load of old SHIT" :D

Polarising is usually good for Eurovision, in terms of driving people to vote for it if they love it. It should work out over a sea of beige.

So I think the 'what a load of shit' brigade outweigh those of us who UNDERSTAND ART by some distance.

WHY do I hate Czech Republic so much. Musically all ok but I want to kill him. He’s like a mix of Olly Murs, Sam & Mark, Joe & Jake, Ant & Dec etc dressed up as a dot-eyed indie twink. Oh please tell that story about Bon Iver again.

He was on the eurovision calling podcast, and his explanation about the (fairly simple) lyrics made no sense.

San Marino and Belarus could both be considered quite surprising qualifiers. Hungary a surprise NQ. I think Belgium was in the bookies top ten to the end, but barely. Either that or Portugal would have been more expected to qualify than San Marino and Belarus.

Portugal was actually an early favourite to win the entire Contest back in March, but their odds consistently dropped as the field got more crowded, and plummeted when rehearsals started. Which is odd because his performance didn't much change from the Portuguese NF. I guess it was a context thing. If you're going to vote for something a bit alternative, there's more to hang on Iceland and Australia.

If it was in MF I suspect it'd go to Andra Chansen and lose.

It's not a terrible song or anything, I just think it's super bland. And the lyrics really irritate me.

The problem with Storm is that there isn't a single moment throughout where I wouldn't much rather be listening to either Wake Me Up or I Could Be The One.

CGI aside, they didn’t do anything with this staging. Just him on an empty stage and flat visuals. Did they spend all their money on the video clip?

I like that middle-8 or whatever the “even if the sky falls down” part

Does anyone have any idea what time the semi appears on iPlayer? (Or when this one did, I mean?)

I'm out tomorrow night at the football, but I intend to watch this as close to immediately after I get in so I can avoid spoilers...
