Talking of DRECK, here's Finland :D

God bless Saara snagging a strong televote in her semi last year to qualify by the skin of her teeth :disco:
I wouldn't be shocked to see this beat Montenegro to last place. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

Talking of Montenegro, this is just SAD. The poor kids are actually bumping into each other on stage. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO WITHDRAW CITING POLITICAL REASONS GUYS.

I'm utterly baffled that Iceland's odds are getting longer and longer, rather than shortening. They feel like such a clear standout by just about every metric.

That said, I don't get the hate for Finland either. It's pretty boring, but not offensively so. I think at this stage I prefer it to Estonia, which actively irritates me.

The Portugal drama deepens - apparently the delegation are FUMING at the EBU TV production who haven’t made any changes to the stage show from their first rehearsal HOWEVER production have changed things for other delegations leading to undertones of production playing favourites :o

What changes do Portugal want? It's not like they have any effects that I've seen, other than maybe a few small lighting details.

He just needs to ditch that fucking frock.

I'd say today was a very good day for Iceland, Australia and Belarus. It took me a while to buy into the latter's chances as the song is very dated, but she sells it really well and it's a ray of upbeat light between two depressing dirges from Hungary and Serbia.

Hungary, Slovenia and Poland are all slipping into the danger zone for me. Slovenia are doing exactly what's expected, but something just doesn't seem to be connecting yet. It's reading as dull. Hopefully the atmosphere of the live show will give it a bit more power.

Hungary is also really dull onstage, and the golden shower effect at the end is just embarrassing. At this point it's like the Wilhelm scream of Eurovison pyro effects.

Poland feels very niche, and they're clearly out of their comfort zone. Their whole schtick is to stand in a line and sing. Making them move around and do costume changes isn't working for them. The veil at the beginning is giving me unfortunate Trintje vibes. Unless the diaspora really rallies for them, I don't think it's going anywhere.

In FURTHER niche Eurovision-drama news, the Cypriot delegation have seen fit to make a STATEMENT about the tempting sounds of TAMTA’s :disco: vocals today via the thoroughly modern medium of Facebook group :D

"We feel obliged to inform that during rehearsals today, a technical sound issue arose whereby the balance between the microphones that was set during the in-ear rehearsal was not adhered to. The delegation submitted a request for a new in-ear and sound check which was granted and took place today at noon. The issues that arose were there and then corrected. Thank you"

Surprised Hungary are fucking it up TBH, his previous entry for me remains magic.

He had such a strong televote last time around I’d be shocked to see him DNC

It's just a bit nothingy. I think it's more likely to slip through than not all things considered, but I don't have it as a lock anymore.

Well obviously Iceland is going to clear up in both the semis and final. I genuinely can't wait for them to appear on the main show.

I'm kind of shooketh by Australia. The transformation from that awful mess in the national final to this visual feast. I think I'm about to stan.

I just hope Australia won't have what Sweden had last year where it felt more like a music video than a live performance.

Such presence! Such star quality! :disco:

Bless him living his best gay life though. We all would if we had his money.

France opens with Bilal in close-up with projections on his face. Then he walks out with a waist-length blonde wig. Joined by a plus-size ballet dancer and a deaf Asian woman, both of whom I believe are viral celebs.

Ends with a shot of baby Bilal and ’We are all kings/queens’ flashing up behind him.

It ain’t subtle, but it’s very well realised.

Jesus Christ the German performance is TERRIBLE. They literally apologise onscreen. :D

In the clip (which sounds like they’ve shown the best bit) the UK staging looks good and he sounds brilliant. But I am fully expecting him to be overshadowed by Sweden.

Tulia have shockingly REMOVED THEIR REVOLVING STAGE

And in gay storm-in-a-teacup news, the tempting sounds of TAMTA :disco: have been under fire for the horrendous nocals in this performance clip:

But apparently the sound is un-mixed, and also: ITS A REHEARSAL.

OH DEAR!

It might just be the social media bubble expanding into rehearsal gossip but I can’t recall a year where so many delegations have been so vocal about their problems with the show producers :D The Israeli TV company are being painted as borderline incompetent

MORE INFORMATION PLEASE! I've only seen Cyprus and rumours about Portugal.

So Conan seems to have been given additional rehearsal time (?) and Telemovis is looking MUCH BETTER now. I really hope that isn't the camera angle for the death drop though, talk about MISSING THE POINT

Spain seem to be bizarrely invested this year, and have gone COMPLETELY kitchen sink with their performance that includes a set of a house on stage and a giant 40 foot robot that apparently cost a ridiculous amount :D

Hilariously with the song and Miki being so energetic, I think a more pared back performance with crowd engagement (along the lines of Amir from France) would be much more effective, but I'm here for the hot mess anyway. Miki seems to be a great representative for Spain too.

Germany may genuinely be one of the worst Eurovision entries ever of all time (not hyperbole). They've retconned their shitshow of a song into some sort of LESBIAN ANTHEM. Not even a hot mess like Spain, just an absolute MESS.

Malta have apparently changed their staging considerably today in their second rehearsal and have seen people say its a possible NQ now with Romania more likely instead. :zombie: I would be gutted for Malta if they didn't qualify tbh, they've arguably put more effort in than pretty much anybody!

I think Italy are difficult to judge until second rehearsal as they were apparently testing lots of things on the LEDs. It seems fine, hate the silver jackets. I hope the camera work is effective and focused on Mahmood himself and the song, as they will be what sells it rather than messy LED screens and dancers that don't add much. I think Mahmood has arguably the most natural star quality of anybody this year FOCUS ON HIM.

France now up to fifth with the bookies!

Watching the Maltese rehearsal I actually feel a bit sorry for the delegation. They've tried SO HARD but the singer is literally a sack of spuds on stage :D

Completely vacant, it looks like a stand in rehearsal!

Looks like the second half of the contest will be packed with the auto-qualifiers - all of them so far with only Germany left to draw.
