Eurovision Hangover 2024 (1 Viewer)

As a viewer, I really enjoyed it. So much more than I expected. But there was an underlying tension that reared it's head especially in the voting. The Israeli delegation were a fucking disgrace.

But I did see a comment that Petra wasn't on top form. I imagine after the day they'd had I wouldn't be full of sass either.

I thought Petra was slightly muted too and the jokes just weren’t as good as in the semis. I wonder if there were a few last minute rewrites.

Petra must have been in fight or flight for over 4 hours. All that cortisol can't have been good for her. At least Malin got to go off and sit somewhere with a damp flannel on her forehead while the scoring was happening.

Some of her best bits last night seemed to be a couple of seeming ad libs. The 'who?' when the Finnish (I think?) were presented and a 'wow' thrown in somewhere else were appreciated.

I would say it showed that we’ve already hosted twice fairly recently, as in it didn’t feel very inspired/innovative but mostly a repetition of the same old tricks/ideas

Just checking in on you all, post shitshow. Typical of the UK to disgrace itself with the phone vote but that's 14 years of Tory for you. Blessings. x

I'd have thought the vast majority of a final audience would only have a vague idea of who Osterdahl even is. Fans who care enough to watch a semi are far more likely to know (and care).

It did seem like their best sketch (We Just Love Eurovision Too Much) was rather thrown away in Semi Two.

I thought that two when watching semi 2, but yesterday it didn’t feel like the question of who did or didn’t win last year was on anyone’s mind.

Do we even KNOW what Swiss hosting is going to look like? It’s not like we even bother with their national selection process!

I'm envisioning something not dissimilar to how Austria ran things in 2015, though I'm hoping it won't be quite as staid as that one turned out to be.

That's a boost in viewers for Spain, clearly sending something that's actually listenable did them some good. :disco:

During the course of the Grand Final being broadcast on La 1, an average of 4,886,000 viewers watched the competition with an average share of 41.8%. As ESCPlus reports, more than 12 million viewers tuned in and watched at least one minute of the contest.

Compared to last year, the audience has increased by almost 50,000 viewers and it increased +2.1 points in share. On social media, the Grand Final had a reach of almost 2 billion users with the hashtags #Eurovision and #Eurovision2024. The contest remains popular within the younger audience, with 86.2% of the comments coming from the target of users between 18 and 34 years of age.

Italy also had a good night.

In Italy, 5,341,000 viewers tuned in last night to watch the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Cinguetterai reports on X (formerly Twitter) that 5,341,000 viewers watched the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024 last night on RAI. The figures make it the second most watched Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest since Italy returned in 2011, just behind 2022 when Italy hosted.

The program gained 0.4 million viewers more compared to last year and had a 36% share, gaining 2 percentage points from the 2023 edition.

The thought of Martin having to sit through that tribute to him whilst the audience in the arena is BAYING FOR HIS BLOOD!

There were a group of foxes just in front of us. I thought they were Spanish for some reason. One of them was off his tits on something, judging by his eyes, jaw and the fact he kept walking around half the night looking for the other foxes, despite them being right in front of him.

* - To be honest, I think it might be THIS one, but I’m aware in such a costume “they all look the same”. If so, they clearly got him JUST before he came UP!

Assorted thoughts from someone who largely dis-engages until 24 hours before:
  • The entries were far stronger than last year's, at least one a single view.
  • Sweden's hosting felt tired.
  • Last night's voting was the first time since Russia's disqualification where there felt like there were real stakes. It reminded me of the night where Sergei Lazarev and Jamala were the Top 2 and the televote really felt like it mattered beyond a song competition.
  • The Swiss slay left me and everyone else very confused.
  • Who knew Austria could do uptempo-OH?
  • Olly was channeling Freeeek! era George Michael, minus the talent, and I couldn't help but stan the staging.
  • France's success came down to the very simple stunt of belting two meters back from the mic. Proof you don't need a bareback gangbang to make an impact, I suppose.
  • A lot of it felt low-budget. Greece was giving RUDRUK levels of polish.
  • I think Lithuania and Ireland probably had the coolest staging.

The afternoon he had already said “fuck the EBU” to the press so a bit like that. He was amused when Martin got booed while reading out our 12 points.

Can I just say thank you to each and every one of you, despite the fuck up this year was it really was such fun to share this season with you all, from Festival i Kënges, to the unforgettable Una Voce Per San Marino, to the drama of the last 48 hours culminating in everyone thinking Sarah Bonnici was replacing Joost.

Most of the Eurovision fandom is toxic and full of LOONS, and yes we are also LOONS but in the best way!

I won't be able to run Moopyvision this year so there's a vacancy for someone else to take the reins!

The European Broadcasting Union has released a statement regarding delegation behavior at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Following a week of controversy at the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Broadcasting Union has released a statement to The Mirror and Irish Independent:

“We regret that some delegations at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö didn’t respect the spirit of the rules and the competition both onsite and during their broadcasts,

We spoke to a number of delegations during the event regarding various issues that were brought to our attention.

The EBU’s governing bodies will, together with the heads of delegations, review the events surrounding the ESC in Malmö to move forward in a positive way and to ensure the values of the event are respected by everyone.

Individual cases will be discussed by the event’s governing body, the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group made up of representatives from participating broadcasters, at its next meeting.”
