Favourite tube station? (1 Viewer)

I hate that ours is OVERGROUND

I suppose the Piccadilly station is in some sort of tunnel

I enjoy the bit where they go on a bridge over Castlefield, and the rickety CANALSIDE TRUNDLE to Altrincham, but if they could just go UNDER the city centre rather than through it, it'd shave some serious time off the journeys.

I was reminded of Crystal Palace station last weekend - it's quite glorious walking down the steps with the old RUINS above you

Bank is indeed a fucking nightmare but I do enjoy the Waterloo & City platforms, where you can see right into the tunnel where the sidings and track points are, it’s like you’re looking behind the curtain. It’s a bit like waiting for the next rollercoaster cart to arrive. :disco:

Liverpool has five proper underground stations, and a few more that are built into cuttings (like the District and Circle lines). They were built in the 70s though, so there's nothing special about them. Unless you're into Beatles memorabilia, in which case it's worth a quick tour.

There are some fab ghost stories about James Street station though - there is a side platform that used to be in full use years ago and is only ever used now as traffic relief and has never been upgraded. It still retains all its historic decor. Every now and again if there's been delays the train will pass through there and you get to see it.

This is the regular platform

And this is the side platform :disco: apparently it's haunted, which adds to the allure -

So when you say subway trains, is your underground network separate from your overground lines?

Liverpool is more like a mini tube, where the city centre is all underground and then the tracks come above ground as they leave the centre...
