UMK has grown to be one of the strongest national finals in recent years, but for some reason we still don't have a thread about this year's event! And how the hell do you follow Cha Cha Cha?

The artists are going to be revealed next week, with the songs following soon after that. In October they released the following clues to the seven songs:
  • “A talented artist’s first 90s-style dance song”
  • “A power song by a true vocal talent”
  • “Perhaps the best song of an indie favourite’s career”
  • “Two big name performers doing a surprising duo with a serious refrain”
  • “A thunderous rock anthem by a world-touring band”
  • “A seriously intense song from one of the most listened-to artists in Finland”
  • “A hard-hitting club banger by a well-known artist making a comeback"

Today on Instagram they released another clue to song/act number 1 (probably not in the same order as the list above)... apparently the second line translates as "WET LEATHER"

Does the first line mean Saara Aalto's coming back?

nublu is an Estonian artist and one of the most popular (and better) ones here from the past years. Can't believe they got him and we got 5MIINUST. :ToneNervous:

Not too bad!

Overall, feeling a little empty. The way Käärijä united the Finns last year was something amazing. Knowing it will likely not happen again in a long time — if ever — feels a bit sad. :shy:

The way you all collectively decided to not vote for Loreen despite secretly bopping to her at home. :disco:

The second song is out :

He's the brother of Isaac Sene who competed with this glorious entry 2 years ago !

Very disappointed we didn't get Bess back this year.

The third song is out and it’s pretty strong. Melodically it sounds a bit Russian to these ears, but that might just be the All The Things She Said post-chorus instrumental bit.

Could challenge if it’s performed well live.

Honestly it all sucks so far. Paskana is typical Finnish Spotify fodder.
I was a little disappointed with the artists. Sexmane, Mikael Gabriel, Sini Sabotage all big names in Finland but I don’t see international appeal.

Today's entry:

Although he's said he won't go to ESC if he wins UMK due to Israel's participation.

I don’t think he (or Israel) has anything to worry about

Oh no, the Portion Boys did it so much better last year.

I can’t bear months of modern Eurovision fans wondering what Windows 95 is.

It’s like the wicked straight version of HOIDA MUT.

We don’t need another year of TOXIC HETEROSEXUALITY from Finland!

Sini Sabotage’s song is decent and a lot of fun.

But I think at the moment Sara Siipola is the one to beat. It’s doing the best on Spotify and it has some of the best lyrics I’ve ever seen in a Eurovision song. It all depends on the live performances but if she manages to pull it off, I think she is going to Malmö.

I'd imagine the one we haven't heard yet will end up being the one to beat considering Mikael Gabriel is the biggest streaming artist in Finland right now and it looks likely to be more of the same "it's crazy it's party" bollocks as last year.

Nublu on his song with Mikael:

"the song is sort of an audio version of adhd, bcs we are the adhd generation. it starts with punkrock and ends with an opera style choir singing. it contains a lot of different music styles, but not so much rap"

Come through :disco:
