Surely one of the most iconic UK entries for some time (for better or worse).

For me, not something I'd really want to listen to outside the final, but elevated by a MEMORABLE performance :eyes:. It's a lot of fun and much needed among the dreary load of miserable entries that year.

Song = 3/10, Performance = a solid 9

I can absolutely see why Eurovision loons hate it - anyone with more than a passing interest in the competition knows that this type of high camp novelty is a really outdated concept and it has a distinct whiff of us trying to have a laugh at Eurovision and coming off looking like idiots.

I would like to hear from RB, now that this song has real life relevance. I wonder how many times he's acted out the Caroline spoken-word part.

Jesus Christ, you'd think Scooch went on stage with child porn images in the background with the level of vitriol it's getting!

It WAS a pretty shit song but it never pretended to be anything else - Scooch themselves never thought they were singing a masterpiece. It's no worse than the Babushkas if you ask me.

It's hard not to sound a bit PO-FACED, but I just think it encapsulates every disdainful, arrogant, xenophobic attitude the UK has towards the Eurovision song contest. "This is a load of tat that isn't worthy of our attention so let's just send a load of absolute tat and those ker-azy Europeans will go nuts!

There is absolutely nothing of value in the song. The tune and lyrics could have been written in 5 minutes (and probably WERE) and the gay innuendos are just the worst kind of tacky. Scooch themselves didn't care one iota about the Contest, they probably still think they lost because of politics. I don't buy the "it's just a bit of fun" argument because there is absolutely no fun to be found in this song. It's a song written by people who hate Eurovision, for people who hate Eurovision, and the kind of people who like it are generally massive twats. (RB excluded, I'm just assuming he's blinded by Scooch's former glories).

I can only say how I feel, and Flying The Flag is down there with Believe in the annals of Eurovision songs I find actually painful to watch and listen to.

I could even find more redeeming features in Josh DuBovie.
 
I don't think VoR is overreacting one bit. It really is an utter disgrace.

Scooch don't hate Eurovision at ALL actually, they have a real fondness for the contest and they've really supported it since they have taken part, and they had loads of fun in Helsinki.

This is a bit what happened when we went De Toppers and everyone who never watches Eurovision said it was typical Eurovision. The difference is that Gordon LOVES it.

Perhaps shit wasn't the right word to use.

It was just a bit of fun at the end of the day. No different to loads of other entries that have graced the Eurovision stage. It's not a song I would ever really listen to outside of Eurovision though really. The Moonlight mix of it is actually really nice.

Besides we have sent FAR FAR worse entries than Scooch - I'm looking at you Andy Abraham and Josh Dubovie!

Of COURSE they have! For the same reason Nikki French and Sonia still "support it"- because they can't get work ANYWHERE ELSE!
 
Oh and for once I ENTIRELY agree with VoR. Utterly appalling and it's still beyond me that we sent it and that people, even ROBOTBOY with his SHOCKING music taste, can try and claim it's actually GOOD
 
I dislike those too, but they're just leaden, whereas Flying The Flag actively offends me as a homosexual and as a Eurovision fan. (And as a person with ears).

I knew it was disliked, but I never thought it was hated with such VITRIOL.

Many of these posts reflect how I feel about Da Da Dum. It actively offends me as a homosexual.

Oh Andy and Josh are WAY worse because they were actually trying to be PROPER entries and they had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I wasn't in Helsinki for Eurovision but I was there for Oslo, and I've never been MORE embarrassed to be British in my life. There was NO interest in the UK entry and Josh whatsoever - the head of the delegation had to practically BEG people to come to press conferences and for interviews. Literally ZERO interest.

As I said before Scooch weren't trying to be anything else but a joke entry. I don't find it offensive in the slightest. Im not saying its a fuckjng masterpiece but its being treated like the Myra Hindley of Eurovision!
 
Personally, I prefer a proper effort that fails to a shit joke.

Silvia Night they were NOT.

That said, the 2010 UK national final is the most depressing piece of television I've ever seen.
