Something to suck on for landing, sir?

Personally, I prefer a proper effort that fails to a shit joke.

Silvia Night they were NOT.

That said, the 2010 UK national final is the most depressing piece of television I've ever seen.

I was MORTIFIED. I was in Stockholm as it was MF weekend and I invited a group of friends round to my hotel room and we had just watched the rather good German final with Lena winning. Then we watched the UK final. After five minutes we all looked at each other with looks of HORROR on our faces. We didnt even make it through to the end after we'd heard the song performed.

But no, a shit joke entry beats a diabolical property effort any day in my book.

Were there 30 of you and did you all laugh?

Either way, let's face it, if you're three songs in THAT league and trying to argue one is better than the others, you know you're left with three fucking turds.

The worst thing about the 2010 final (and there's a lot to choose from) is that all the good work Jade had done the year before was rendered utterly NULL.

We've never really recovered.

Um, it's one of the only UK entries I can actually remember (next to the one with the rapper and Touch My Fiiii-eeeer) that I can actually remember so that's something.

They did, then everyone completely ignored it, and we're talking proper Eurovision LOONS here. If you can't even get THEM interested then you're FUCKED!

Just because something knows it's shit, does not redeem it. DON'T BE SHIT THEN.

I agree with VoR. But I also don't take the whole ANYWHERE AS SERIOUSLY as VoR. It constantly shocks me that a smart young man such as Our John spends such extraordinary time and effort dedicated to something, which whilst utterly fabulous in the most throwaway gay way anything can be, is actually just a TV show, with little consequence. And I love it.

Do any hobbies have particular consequence?

It's not like I spend my days lobbying outside Scooch's homes for justice. I just watch the shows, listen to the music and write about it a bit.

You don't take it too far, I agree and I'm not condemning your hobby and I hope you continue to get mileage out of writing about it.

It's just you're so fucking po-faced it!

With the greatest of respect.

In VoR's defence, he rarely gets this serious about the ESC, only maybe with Scooch and Loreen. Generally he's one of the more laid back people in the Eurovision forum. He's one of the few I haven't received death threats from so far.

I've resisted so far mentioning Cyndi - but I think she would have given the UK a top ten placing (and I would have won £150) if the UK had picked her.

I love how Fearne Cotton looked like she'd taken a whole box of Valium before doing that NF....xD

As for Scooch and FTF, this is an opinion of someone who owns "Four Sure" album and is proud of it:

This is quite frankly bad, also comparing to their stuff during the highlight years, but - it makes me laugh & puts a smile on my face. It's meant to be tongue & cheek and I don't totally hate it for that.

Of course one can discuss UK's approach to ESC, when entries like this one get sent, but here - It doesn't make me cringe as much as it was supposed to, so I guess it's not entirely diabolical then...

I have the same mental block with 'I'll Leave My Heart' that Madison does with I Remember Love.

It's very You Raise Me Up/My Heart is Yours, isn't it? I don't think it's owt special, but at least it's pretty.

Cyndi would definitely have done a bit better, but she wouldn't have done particularly WELL, I don't think. I live for the moment Scooch realised they'd actually beaten her.

Anyway, Flying The Flag is EXCELLENT, and has AGED WONDERFULLY
At least Malta knew a great song when they heard one!

Seeing them pop up during the live shows was a highlight of Liverpool.

It’s a much better song and yes this is a hill I am willing to die on.

And Natalie Powers was and remains an amazing pop vocalist.

I've witnessed superior student musical comedy performances. Sure, this could've passed as filler in a low-budget musical farce. But if you're aiming to mock the competition without any substance, you better bring the humor. The lyrics and performance lack any form of ambition or depth, it's merely embarrassing. Those laughing are either laughing at it or with it, but then it's a perverted view of what ESC never was. It's like Josh Dubovie without even the ambition to excel.

Anyway, looking at the discourse earlier in the thread, and how it aligns with the discourse particularly over Finland this year, I think some of you need to CHILL and just accept that silly nonsense has as much of a place (arguably more) in Eurovision as BLAND BALLADRY and worrying about the sanctity of the contest (vis-à-vis songs) is JOYLESS, POINTLESS, and a GROSS OVERREACTION.

I'm not overly concerned about the sanctity of the contest. It's just disheartening to see that Scooch's enduring legacy deterred any reputable acts from representing the UK for well over a decade.

I think it's fine if you are a country that already takes Eurovision seriously, which we ABSOLUTELY WERE NOT at that point. It went along with the whole Terry Wogan "Oh it's just all shite" narrative and it was picked not because anyone thought it would do well, but because people wanted to point and laugh along at the whole thing.

It's VERY different to Finland.

And @VoR said it earlier, reading back, but compare this to something like Silvia Night. That's a novelty entry. This was just lowest denominator shite.

Yeah exactly, novelty entries will always have a place at Eurovision. I'm even OK with them when they take the piss out of Eurovision, but this was more or less taking the piss out of Europe. Well, trying and failing.

Congratulations - to everyone 10 years ago. That was "fun" to read.

FTF is like a theme song if Terri McIntyre had followed up Classy Biatch with Shit Airlines. That it got to Eurovision is toe curling, yes, and Scooch themselves can't turn down anything, so I don't hold it against them to squeeze everything they can out of anything, but it's hideously barrel-scraping and they need to move on or get better writers. The Fast Food Rockers would never.

I think it's safe to say that VoR absolutely NAILED this on page 1...
