It's been 9 years since V was released! Online play is still wildly popular with new features added often.

VI will apparently feature a female Latina protagonist, here's a link with more info plus how Rockstar is cleaning up it's act.

I loved GTA V but can't ever be bothered with online play (for that or anything); I was always disappointed how much effort they're still putting into online vs. developing a new offline game.

Article is paywalled. Any update on timing for VI?

I still love the online play on GTA V - I hate to think how many hours I spent on it during lockdown.

Industry analysts anticipate that the next Grand Theft Auto will be out sometime in Take-Two’s 2024 fiscal year, which runs from April 2023 through March 2024, but developers are skeptical. The game has been in development in some form since 2014. Although there are loose schedules in place, people interviewed for this article said they didn’t know of any firm release date and that they expect the game to be at least two years away. Earlier this year, a group of designers quit Rockstar’s Edinburgh office, telling colleagues they were sick of the lack of progress.

likewise!

It's like when they brought out Fallout '76 instead of an actual game. But I guess we're the dinosaurs now :(

I did play GTA online for quite a while, the races and stuff are fun for quick blasts and you could do more missions etc. Or just be a cunt and take out other players for no reason.

Trouble is fortnite just made it so easy to have a quick 20-30 minute round of satisfying shooting people and that took over my life.

I played GTA1-3 to death and played a bit of 4. I must be one of the few people into gaming that hasn’t bothered with 5!

I am definitely here for a new installment but with the current microtransactions economy becoming a norm and the popularity of multiplayer/online I have begun fearing for single player in AAA games...

Not going to lie, the recent hype has got me, well, hyped.

Kind of glad its going to be a 2025 release, Ron Jr is such a game nerd that this is slap bang on his radar and so the older he is the more I can trust he will take the games violent features with a pinch of adolescent salt. What 13/14 year old doesn't want to drive around doing drivebys lets face it, but at least I can talk to him about the difference between murdering people in a game vs real life.

Anyway, it looks fucking mint. Might take the year off.

Time to start figuring out what I need to get so that I can re-engage with the only game series I’ve ever cared about

There’s a PlayStation FIVE now, I hear

I’ve been holding off a ps5 for the new GTA. There is also the issue of where said purchase goes, as currently the 4 is in ron jrs room, but I want to murder prostitutes at 2am

Just get a new TV with Xbox game pass (streaming) built in. Works wonderfully.

Think I’ll finally need to upgrade to the latest-gen console for this one

I hope they are better at cracking down on cheats on GTA Online. It’s unplayable sometimes.
