I got cross with the HSW "quizzes" so I tried Sporcle when I should be going to bed.

Don't do it! Once you start on Sporcle, you get trapped and all of a sudden its 4 in the morning

among the bigger countries I forgot about completely - Ireland (), Ukraine, every single Caribbean island, Thailand, Vietnam, almost the entire continent of Africa... oops.

Once you learn them in alphabetical order (and how many per different letter) it'll never leave you. Then you can aim for the capitals, flags and top 10 bops, etc.

I had to memorize all those abbreviations in elementary school but I’m not sure if I’d remember them now

The one I've never bothered to learn is state capitals, just because it's BORING. Some of them are so RANDOM. Talk about taking your capital choice out of the Canada/Australia playbook.
