I'm A Celeb 2023 (1 Viewer)

Was Frankie Detorri not meant to be going in or was that never confirmed?

This feels a very long episode. I don't think I am in the right mood for it coming right off the back of Big Brother.

With I’m A Celebrity I usually only end up watching the opening show and the last week. It’s on far too often for me to even try watching this show.

If they could just have like a big summary episode at the weekend so I don’t have to watch any during the week, that would be great.

I watch the whole series but I enjoy it most to begin with. Everything gets pretty stale pretty quickly unless we have fireworks, which we have not had in quite a few seasons now.

“Do you know Nigel?”

“WHO?”

“Nigel”

“Oh. Nigel, yeah she’s a food critic.”

:D

I've not watched it yet but I've been following social media.

I'm a big Made In Chelsea fan so have followed Sam Thompson for years, he can be very ott and annoying, but he really is like a little Labrador puppy. A genuinely lovely bloke. Plus Pete Wicks is his best mate and his Instagram stories are amazing.

Jamie Lynn spears is already pissing me off just from the odd clip I've seen, she looks so bored when anyone talks to her.

Josie seems lovely.

Yeah if anything, Big Brother has just highlighted how stale this format is, so I'm just not bothering this year. I usually fall away from it after about a week anyway, and the Farage casting leaves such a bitter taste.

Amazing that Ant McPartland seems to have had more push back for this than he got from crashing his car when he was half cut. Shows you how much people hate Farage.

I must say above trying to assert the fact she's a famous actress, I was really shocked at Jamie Lynn's age. I didn't realise there was such a gap between her and Britney, although actually maybe I did because didn't Britney used to drag her around in the early 00s and she was practically an infant?

But yeah, 32 and the rest was my immediate thought.

Hmmmm...

Nobody I know is really talking about it, although granted I know about 6 people. Still though, it's usually event TV and I hear people buzzing about it but this year I'm hearing very little...

Any idea what previous recent years have been? I though last year was bolstered by Hanco*k but I’ve no idea to be honest.

9.1 million in the overnights last year with an audience of 12.3 million once catch up viewers etc was added on. It is down a couple of million on last years overnights but I do think it got a bit of a boost last year with it returning to Australia after a couple of years in Wales.

IF it gets roughly 3 million on catch up like it did last year then it will still take it easily to the top of the ratings chart which I am sure ITV will be elated with.

I think with Big Brother and the success of MAFS, some people just have reality TV fatigue. There’s FAR too much choice. Strictly is easy to do with just the weekends, but with multiple hour long episodes all week, who has the time?

I agree we have a lot on at the same time, but no more than usual, really.

I would have thought this was a different vehicle altogether from MAFS and Big Brother and would generally be the juggernaut of UK reality tv beside Strictly. Even without adding catch up this would still be ranked 3rd on last weeks ratings chart. This is usually the most watched tv programme of the year though so it’s still pretty disappointing.

It's the same format and we all know how it's going to play out.

With BB, for all it's failings it has at least evolved. This year's series had a genuine feeling of high stakes. MAFS I've never seen but I understand the premise, and it's at least different. Traitors is new and an actual thrill ride.

I'm a Celeb doesn't have any of that any more.

To be fair Strictly has only slightly evolved, but I guess the combination of glitz, glamour, dancing, music and celebrity is enough of a draw.

It’s all relative really though surely? It has came back with over night figures of 7 million which in this climate is still fantastic viewing figures. It will likely pick up another million or so on catch up to take it over 8 million which will take it to pretty much bang on with Strictly.

Big Brother isn’t the best example as although I LOVED the return personally, it failed pretty spectacularly ratings wise overall.

Is falling attention spans an issue? Social media has created a very "just gimmie the JUICE" approach and it's easy to get that and I wonder if this contributes to a lack of interest in watching a full hour and a bit's television for 5-10 minutes of properly interesting content.

ITV shows really are the worst though. They pad out so much before and after multiple breaks. Pointless rundowns of what’s just happened and what’s coming up. Britain’s Got Talent is the worst. There’s barely 20 minutes of actual content in an hour long show. The BBC shows do it too even without the ads, but aren’t half as bad.

Rita is right, it is all relative - it's still likely to end up at worst behind only Strictly. Although of course falling behind that (or even only being narrowly above it) isn't a great look after how comprehensively it beat it last year.

I do think ITV really are out of ideas though as far as their flagship entertainment shows are concerned. They seem overly dependent on formats which are only losing appeal, and trying something new (for them) like Mamma Mia has been a big flop.

Mind you, it's not like BBC are doing much better with the revival of Survivor. And then there will be the revival of Gladiators in January. Where are the NEW ideas? I know more viewing is moving away from linear TV, but it feels like on the main channels in prime time at least, they are just letting it happen.

I think Dancing On Ice may be the worst example I've seen, although I admit I've not seen any BGT for a few years. It's utterly infuriating, and I don't know how anyone can bear to watch it live at all.

This is definitely an issue I have at the moment. Things like Instagram stories and tiktok where everything is a minute long, means anything longer than ten minutes and I lose interest, especially if I'm poorly or stressed.

Grindr

The show definitely needs a revamp, it was more enjoyable in Wales and could do with being in a different part of Australia, or even a different continent.

I liked the different tasks and themes that came with it. 🤷‍♂️

Having said that, 2 seasons was enough.

I will never look back on it fondly. It was really boring, but that may have also been down to the casting to be fair.
