A very difficult choice but I might give the edge to janft.

Control to TVR is such an untouchable run, four perfect albums in a row

You could argue that The Body That Loves You is probably the weakest link on Janet. but honestly as an album it's near flawless. By any standard. For any artist.

Janet edges it. There’s filler on both, but putting something as great as Can’t Be Stopped on as a hidden track and yet releasing Every Time as a single is quite unfortunate.

10 That's The Way Love Goes
09 You Want This

07 The Body That Loves You
09 Any Time, Any Place

07 Whoops Now

not sure if this is unpopular but I find the back half of Velvet Rope somewhat fillery? that said it's all listenable and both albums are front loaded.

but nothing can compete with the run of TTWLG / You Want This / If / This Time / Throb / What'll I Do. maybe the best run of songs on any album ever? classique after classique.

I prefer Rhythm Nation 1814, but think janet. is a better album.

I get irritated by RN1814 being called some kind of socially conscious concept album, when there are only 4 songs on it that could possibly be interpreted that way and only one of them was a single.

Both are great, but .janet is one of my favourite albums ever:

You don’t feel the social injustice pressed upon the lonely on Come Back To Me and Miss You Much

See I find The Velvet Rope a bit over produced. It's a bit GLOOPY in parts, I particularly don't like "I Get Lonely", you just know it needed to be remixed to be a single (I don't even care that much for the single version either to be honest)

But where it's good it's very very good. It's probably her most objectively ACCOMPLISHED work. But janet. is just a much better listen overall. I normally prefer cohesive albums over a collection of different bops, but when the collection of bops is THAT strong I don't really mind. janet. is almost wall to wall tunes.
