France have had enough after winning three times in four years, and are handing over the reigns to the runners-up

Host city and Ruth Lorenzo on presenting duties all tbc

:disco:

I hope @Alla is keeping his ear to the ground at the Fuengirola sauna

The news we've all been waiting for today

Madrid chosen as host city, Saturday 16th November as the date to block out in your diaries

Ultimately it’s for the greater good.
The eventual total destruction and damnatio memoriae of the JESC.

But we were working ourselves up to a win 😭😭

Praying for ITV to step back in, or at least a return for Wales

I suspect the fact we WERE working ourselves up to a win is exactly why we've pulled out! The BBC almost certainly isn't in the mood to have to end up accidentally bearing the expense of hosting the thing for something which gets such appalling ratings.

We could've followed France's lead and fobbed off hosting duties to some desperate nation wanting to get a hosting stint in and a much needed boost to their sauna industry :oi:

Can they re-deploy the disturbed individuals behind the UK's Junior Eurovision efforts (after two strong entries) to proper Eurovision. 'Lose My Head' would be a safe top ten.

I would imagine it's more to do with the fact it's been moved to a Saturday night and would have been on against Strictly.

What an odd choice! Mid afternoon felt right for the allegedly intended audience of actual children, and presumably most countries have more competitive schedules during primetime. Not to mention that a lot of the eastern nations are well into the middle of the night by early evening CET/BST.

'allegedly intended audience' :D
