Kate Bush: Remastered (1 Viewer)

Volume 1 has come down in price a wee bit on amazon - £67 is almost enough to make me bite, although I've asked for vouchers for amazon so hopefully it'll still be around that price in a few weeks.

I went to the Kate Bush charity pop-up shop in King's Cross last week (did anyone else go?) and spent a small fortune, including buying a raffle ticket - and I have just been told I've won a copy of her How To Be Invisible lyric book which Kate will sign and inscribe with my name!

Very rare to get anything signed and inscribed by her these days so I'm pretty excited!

Me too!

I was right...just scored the remastered "The Dreaming" for £6.99 in HMV. Tiny stock but actually restickered rather than "sale stock" i.e. the £9.99 sticker is still there.

Says a lot that HMV are putting out sale stuff on the 23rd December but is it unexpected?

I got the first set of this on CD for Christmas. Just playing "The Kick Inside" now and it really is a massive step up- it's been beautifully remastered.

Kind of wondering whether I should go for the vinyls at some point, although I've got a couple of the original vinyls from charity shop purchases and I'm not sure I NEED them...

The early albums on remastered CD really do sound so great. I couldn't be happier with them.

The vinyls are more of an obsessive compulsion for me than a need but they look and sound great too.

Fanboy alert but I also noticed recently that although the CD booklets look the same, they have been changed a bit to correct typos and to add some lyrics that weren't previously typed up. 'Leave It Open' has an example of both.

I noticed that Rolf Harris isn't credited on the new CD of The Dreaming. Has he been replaced on that as well?

I bought the first CD box myself and got The Dreaming and Hounds of Love vinyls for Christmas as they're my favourites. Not sure I need any of the rest.

His contribution on The Dreaming hasn't been removed although you're right that he's not credited. I guess he's just less obviously present on The Dreaming than on (pre-remastered) Aerial.

And here's my signed How To Be Invisible!

Just listening to Aerial for the first time on vinyl. OH MY GOD. It absolutely comes to life - it soars. I know she recorded it 'for vinyl' but I had no idea it would make such a difference.

Now's the time while copies are plantiful and the purists are grumpy about Rolf getting the heave-ho. Let's face it - how many will they actually have pressed?

How much have the remasters sold?

I've yet to bite but I really want to

Seems to have been a bit of a price drop on all the box sets on Amazon- the first CD one is £49 and the second is £78. I'll bite for the latter at that price, what with me having a £50 voucher to spend...

I know I’m late and you’ve all moved on, but:

I’ve always loved Kate Bush, mainly the early stuff, but I’ve never been besotted with her like some. I feel this is about to change- the remastering on these box sets, as has already been said, is absolutely beautiful and almost like listening to new albums. I’m astonished.

I’m half tempted to get the vinyls now- even though I own a couple of original vinyls and I really have no need to spend the money...

The Dreaming may well overtake Hounds of Love as my favourite Kate album thanks to the remasters.

Need an updated album rank & overall Kate top 10 I feel !

I'd like to get them all but I just think it's too much. Then again, she hardly ever releases anything and is nowhere near as greedy in terms of fleecing the faithful with constant reissues (I'd like to pretend Directors Cut never happened)...

It’s not about that, it’s about the fact I really don’t need to spend the best part of £400 on music I already own which replaced music I already owned. Sometimes twice.

Actually, that sentence has made my mind up for me I think :D

I may get Aerial and that'll conclude my vinyl reissue holy trinity with Hounds of Love and The Dreaming.

I, too, have got some of the others from charity shop purchases over the years ...

I’ve got Lionheart, Hounds of Love and The Whole Story on vinyl. I’m hoping these reissues will see more crop up in the future as they’re surprisingly hard to come by and especially for a decent price. Though having said that, Lionheart I got for a quid at the local tip...

1. Hounds Of Love
2. The Dreaming
3. Aerial
4. Never for Ever
5. The Red Shoes
6. The Sensual World

I've got the same three!!

The Whole Story is really poor quality but I just love staring at the cover.

I nearly bought the American vinyl of The Kick Inside years and years ago with the Tori-inspiring alternate cover at a used record store in Boston (before the whole vinyl revival) but couldn't justify the expense at the time. PILLOCK.

Mine is also poor quality :D Well, I say that- it actually only jumps once and I’m hoping my new record cleaning machine will perk it RIGHT UP :disco:

I'd never heard "Lionheart" before yesterday and it is a bit thin right enough. Interesting alternate timeline in which EMI didn;t rush her into that album, thus creating the mindset of "it's finished when it's finished and don't every rush or push me ever again" which may have created her best work...

Lionheart is a bit of a sacrifice to the development of her creative process, but it does contain some gems (Symphony, Wow, Hammer Horror). It must have been a let down after The Kick Inside earlier that year though!

Officially NOT A TORY

It’s been very exciting to hear all the positive feedback around the Remastered project and the lyric book. Thank you so much for embracing both of them. It means a great deal to everyone involved.

I didn’t do any interviews for either project hoping that the work could speak for itself. I read some articles that included a number of inaccuracies and usually I don’t respond. However I do feel I need to address one story which came from a phone interview I did two years ago. I was very disappointed that the use of a quote out of context was timed with the release of the live album and it seemed as if the focus went onto the quote rather than the work. It was deeply frustrating. At the time I discussed the idea of responding to it with close friends and we all agreed it was best to let it go. It seems the quote keeps being used and so I’d like to present my side of the story.

Over the years, I have avoided making political comments in interviews. My response to the interviewer was not meant to be political but rather was in the defence of women in power. I felt he was putting a really negative slant on powerful women, referring to a witch hunt involving Hilary Clinton. In response I said that we had a woman in charge of our country, and that I felt it was a good thing to have women in power. I should have been clearer when I then said it was the best thing that had happened to us for a long time - because I greatly disliked the behaviour of the previous PM, who at that point I felt had abandoned us and everybody felt angry and let down.

Again with no response from me to the latest resurfacing of this article, it could make it seem like I am a tory supporter which I want to make clear I am not.

I won’t be commenting further on this, but feel it’s become so pervasive that I felt I needed to clarify this matter once and for all.

Happy New Year,
Kate

Good. Now let us never speak of this again.

On the remasters front, I’m not noticing THAT much difference between the original and remastered ‘Hounds Of Love’. Is it just me? Maybe it didn’t need as much fiddling with as ‘Lionheart’ and (the notoriously muddy) ‘The Dreaming’
