are you fully on board with CDW yet? She works amazingly well with Kay, although im first to admit his sound can get somewhat repetitive. At the same time though I do think it’s very much his sound.

My choice track after 1 listen is the Childish Gambino one but I’ve playlisted most of the album

I cherry picked through and I felt a lot of it was the same old same old. Still is a lovely change of pace but on the whole he's become such a recycler and the songs themselves really don't have the hooks to sustain it. where's the desire to keep it moving?

I agree it's nothing new but I absolutely love the Kaytranada sound and don't want him to evolve. However it does sound on first listen that the album doesn't have as many hooks as Bubba.

Hoping it grows.

Lover/Friend (which is on the album but came out in December) is still one of the best things he's ever done though.

Yes, I don’t think it’s bad… at all. He just needs to take some risks and there’s a couple of songs where you hear that but it’s not happening often enough for me.

Durand Bernarr is absolutely extreme though vocally and worth some interest for that alone - I don’t know if any of you have seen his tiny desk concert but I'd recommend it. Crazy vocals.

In terms of production, nothing will ever beat Girl by The Internet. But I’d put that in the Top 10 of the last decade alone. It’s probably the best lo-fi song ever made.

I think ‘Endless Night’ right here (the song, not the project) is actually BETTER than anything on Kay’s album. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the sexiest, sultriest songs of 2024 for me. It took a few listens but now I am HOOKED
