Louis Gossett Jr, the first black man to win an Oscar for best supporting actor, dies at 87

Gossett won the Academy Award in 1983 for his role as the intimidating Marine drill instructor in An Officer And A Gentleman. He also won an Emmy Award for his role in TV series Roots.
