Love Island (Winter) 2023 (1 Viewer)

And that's our lot until tomorrow. I guess they must be desperate to hold on to viewers, but that's so disrespectful of our time - I could have watched something else, a completely pointless episode.

Claudia has absolutely pushed Casey away as much as she could at this point. I don't think he was ever into her and do feel her going through the motions is almost simply circumstantial with the nature of the show simply making it seem more extreme than it needs to be. Even though obviously I'm not straight (:D), I'd absolutely prefer her personality over the new girl (and her comments to the other girls were quite horrible actually so I don't buy the nice girl routine at all).

Ron is nauseating and I don't think he's into Lana at all.

They need to wrap this up asap. Pie episode, family episode, talent show and then final are all the episodes I want and no more.

When does it finish? It does seem like it has been quite a DRAG this season but I think that is more down to the ones taking part being even more void of personality than the usual lot.

Thought to be Monday 13th going on the usual 8 week run, although you'd think the final would be on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

This is usually the point where I start to zone out. It's such a weird format for a reality show to (intentionally?) become less interesting towards the end.

What I really haven't appreciated this year is how non-interactive it feels. There have been, what, three audience votes? It's almost as if they know they can't afford to lose the 'characters' (Tanya, Olivia) who almost certainly would be bottom of the vote and have just removed any choice from the audience whatsoever.

If I'm honest, besides the Casa episodes which were good value as ever, I think the format is perilously close to running out of steam. I think the summer series could be make or break. Although I suspect the producers know that and will go out of their way to find personalities that will generate social media buzz.

I do admire how they have stayed true to the format from the beginning and not got down the BB route of constant twists but inevitably if they play it that way then it will run out of steam.

Do most reality shows not follow that trajectory when the silly viewers get rid of the big characters early on. Certainly in earlier seasons of BB that was generally always the case.

I feel bad for Claudia as you can tell she really likes him but Casey just screams fuck boy who would jump on the next girl he sees who is remotely attractive.

I'm not so sure.

Undoubtedly there are some (The Apprentice, possibly, gets a little less interesting in the final few weeks when it's mostly competent people left) but imagine watching something like The X Factor and thinking the final is the least essential part of the series. The same was true, to some extent, of early Big Brother, but they fixed it pretty quickly.

The only thing Love Island has changed is getting rid of the 'split or steal' cash twist at the end, which was always daft because the show never had any element of faking a relationship. There's an element of convenience, for some, maybe, but the series has never been about leading someone on and then dumping them to win a cash prize.

Oh no I've just remembered: the baby episode. I'll need to look ahead to know which nights not to bother about.

Big brother changed from vote to evict to vote to save at some point which meant bigger characters got a reprieve but even up to season 8 with Charley leaving the show got boring quickly. The apprentice is another good example and so is I’m a Celebrity in that the dynamics of the show changes when people start to get evicted and they choose who does the tasks between them and that is just 3 of the biggest reality tv programmes I can think of the top of my head.

I do see what you are saying though in that the public have had little choice in this season and the producers seem to have left the evictions down to the contestants in the most part.

On to last night's today. But back to the one before, Claudia clapping for the new girl was absolutely lovely of her and put me to shame (I was tutting, scoffing and remarking all sorts at the situation). Anyway, Casey is completely bland and who would want to "turn" him anyway?

Oh and he's being a right bitch to Jessie now. Wow, can they please have another movie night to show the rest his true colours there? That was absolutely not on.

"First of all, are you okay?" isn't exactly having a go at him. That was vile behaviour from him. "You can head... but thank you for your opinion".

And then claiming she said "you have no right" which could not have been further from her actual approach to him.

I'm actually starting to think this show is being prompted/scripted to try and spice things up a bit. This episode is so bizarre in the shift against Jessie and the hypocrisy of Maxwell. And girls-girl Olivia joining in too.

I don’t get where all this sniping at Jessie has came from at all, unless it is heavily edited to show her in a good light.

Oh totally this episode screamed producer interference, I was a bit confused after watching what had happened :D

Who do we even want to win at this point?! I would say Tom and Sammie but it’s really slim pickings this year.

Will and Jessie or Tom and Sammie for me too. I don’t really like Will but Tom is growing on me.

OMG! I did NOT expect that result. After all her bitching about how Kai was always in the bottom Olivia went first.

Who do we think they are going to choose to get rid of? Surely not Will and Jessie!? :o

They have to pick from the three remaining couples in the bottom four, surely?

Putting the least compatible couple in a position where they could potentially eliminate the couple voted most compatible by the public would be a joke.

Watching last night's episode. Will with the boys and Jess with the girls. This is unwatchable. Jess is doing well against Liv not wanting to have it out despite starting it.

Casey and his aggressive smile is really off-putting. The quick reply to thingymajig saying he has to up his game ("no I don't") sums up the new him.

That tongue smirk from Olivia. At least they're giving her an exit to do her TV charisma justice, just a shame she had no humour about it all. But yes, she should only get to choose from the other bottoms even if Kai cacking it must surely be pleasing for her.

You would have THOUGHT so but I wouldn’t be surprised if that is not the case. Maya certainly didn’t state that Olivia and Maxwell had to choose a couple from the three remaining couples in the bottom.

Thursday's was such a chore to get through, I couldn't tell you anything about sports night. Currently watching last night's and it's really just biding time until that public poll troll thing.

I am just ready for it to be over to be honest, it’s had some great moments but it has felt like a bit of a chore watching it this year.

I am going to wait for the friends and family episode as these last 2 have been absolutely woeful. If you haven't seen them, I honestly wouldn't bother.

Well I have no willpower and have watched Sunday's and now Monday's. It's gone a bit Big Brother at the moment.

I think the main issue is that as much as the producers may try and engineer some juice, having someone like Ron being this years villain when he is tepid at best is what has made this season a DUD. Zara had such promise and her constant biting at Liv would have escalated had she not been voted out so early. Strange, as at the time Zara was clearly edited in a bit light as when the season got in to full flow we all noticed Liv had very little redeeming features and was a spineless bitch.
