She just doesn’t want to embarrass Courtney Love and steal the QUEEN OF GRUNGE crown

Haven't heard any snippets. I'm convelling at the idea of Mariah having her own Smells Like Teen Spirit megaton. Would just die to have a full vocal capacity Mariah scream out Hole's Violet. Those AI people need to get started on this immediately.

Fun new interview

Another accolade was your nomination this year for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I wondered if you had thoughts on that.
My thoughts are: I didn’t get in.

How about the Grammys?
[Sighs]

Oh, the sigh.
Because I don’t know how to answer this question. They gave me two Grammys when I first started out. Then one year — huge year for me, career-wise — I had like six nominations with the “Daydream” album and “One Sweet Day” and “Always Be My Baby” and “Fantasy.” All those songs in a row ended up being so big that you just thought, OK, at least “One Sweet Day” is gonna win best duet or something. Then I sat there the whole time and I didn’t get anything. I was like, This is not fun. But what can I do? Be a sore loser and say, “F the Grammys?” Whatever. If they give me more Grammys, I’ll like them more.

OK, last few things. Word is, you’re working on new music. Accurate?
Accurate. I have nine or 10 songs, so it’s enough to have an album. I just haven’t put the vocals down on every song.

Random point, but I’ve always loved your song “#Beautiful” with Miguel.
That was a lot of Miguel [laughs]. ( :D )

What’s it been like to watch Chappell Roan express herself the way she has?
For me, it’s like that time is in the past, and somebody else can do with their time what they want. (:basil: )

I feel like her attitude is often - “if you want better answers, ask better questions”. And I fully endorse this approach. Madonna was the same, as was Whitney.

I know interviews are like a necessary evil to stars, but it must be SO dull being asked questions that don’t really have a useful answer.

“How do you feel about not winning?” - what exactly do you want me to say?

I'm not sure I agree with this. The first part of the question, ok, but the second answer about the Grammies is actually a really good and revealing response which was elicited through the (potential) frustration with the first. It's actually good journalism to be able to follow up that closed ended question with something that gave a good soundbite. I mean, they got a "fuck the Grammys" out of it!

Well I was speaking generally. Not specifically that article. Some of her answers made me think that that’s how she often is, and then she gets accused of being combative or disinterested.

I notice these things because I always think that’s exactly what I’d be like if I was famous :D (probably worse)

I think it happens to a lot of divas who have to endure the exact same questions year after year for their 20/30/40+ year long career. From their perspective, the questions become mundane.

People are awful. She just lost her mother and a sibling you insensitive c*nts! But she looks half asleep, and definitely not how We Belong Together (Angry Version) should be performed.

I'm loving her "I'm a hard done by under-appreciated, underground suffering artist" vibe in interviews lately :D
