Martin Lee (Brotherhood of Man) DEAD (1 Viewer)

Hard to believe that they two further numbers ones, off of Eurovision. Goes to show the popular appeal it had back then. Same for Bucks Fizz.

I do have quite the soft spot for Figaro.

:o

My very first favourite act :(

They only stopped touring just before COVID as well.

I love Figaro unreservedly. Angelo somewhat less so.

Oh Boy (The Mood I'm In) is their very best single IMO, though.

Did I see them at the 60th concert? If I did they were quite fun, but so was almost everyone.

My very first album, which I had for what must have been either Christmas when I was 5, or my 6th birthday.

I've never been able to find it since, but I'm sure there's footage of ABBA being asked about their secret for writing hit singles in an interview, and Bjorn deadpans "Oh that's easy, we just rip off Brotherhood of Man" and the other three crack up.

and to be fair... :D

It is still the best selling Eurovision winner ever? I'd assume so.

In the UK? I doubt anything has touched it here. But streaming skews that a little, Loreen and Måneskin's numbers are probably ridiculous, although probably not a million+.

I’d imagine Waterloo streams well enough to eventually overtake it if it hasn’t done so already.

I think even with streaming Waterloo is some way behind, in the UK at least - globally may be quite different.

For what it's worth, Save Your Kisses and Waterloo are both Platinum singles in the UK but no more.

Tattoo, Space Man and Just a Little Bit also have platinum discs, but are presumably a lot less close to the million mark.

I'm fairly sure Save Your Kisses For Me sold a million in 1976 alone. It was the #1 of the year, although long since overtaken by Don't Go Breaking My Heart (#2) and Dancing Queen (#4). I doubt it has sold much more over the years since though. Their back catalogue is a bit all over the place on streaming. And modern Eurovision playlists tend to represent old contests poorly - even the properly great songs.

It can't be that far off double platinum though, on sales alone.

Who owns their catalogue? I think Deram are owned by Universal and Pye by BMG...

People always worry about the 3 year old, but nobody cares about the puppy he copped off with in the follow up :(
