An angel has fallen as a MelFest legend leaves us in 6th place.
Poor Shirl, Melodifestivalen 2022 was her comeback attempt after having been absent from Melodifestivalen in almost a decade. Hopes weren't high when even her very loyal fans were concerned when it was heard she'd be performing a ballad and not a schlager number ((most of us remember her ill-fated PITCHY GAMMON Jennifer Rush tribute in 2009 and showing up looking tired and burnt out in 2014). I will say on this occasion she defended "Let There Be Angels" the best she could. It just was a few years too late for her to have her big moment. Presumably due to the app crashing and a large chunk of Malou Prytz' not knowing how to count, let alone dial a number, our Shirl did manage to scrape 6th place in the semi. Maybe a MelFest 2030 invite might still be in the cards.
Fun trivia: Shirley Clamp holds the unique distinction of being the only MelFest act to finish 6th in a semi-final 3 times (2003, 2014 & 2022). Perhaps it was fate she did the same result in our polls.
