We've reached MELFEST SOLSTICE girls - the time of the year when we are exactly six months away from the joy and requiem of new Melodifestivalen material :disco: - and also this is the time of year when the artists start poking around Jimmy Joker's leftovers wardrobe and popping up in studios and rumours begin, so NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT :disco:

Any 30 out of this lot:

Agnes, Alcazar including Magnus, BWO, Sandra Dahlberg, Lena Ph, Fame, Pernilla Wahlgren, Måns Zelmerlöw, Sarek, Darin, Jenny Silver, Cosmo4, Anton Ewald, Nina and Kim, Sofia, Eric Saade, Carola, Shirley Clamp, Arja Saijonmaa, Katrina and the New Wave, Linda Bengtzing, Kalle Moraeus, Viktor sans Samir, De vet du, Velvet, Aontú, Lasse Lindh, Sibel, Fröken Snusk, Jonathan Fagerlund, Timoteij, Celine Dion, Molly Sandén, Yohio, Dinah Nah, SaRaha, and Frida and Headline.

I really can’t be arsed with her again considering that’s more or less what she’s claimed her last 3 entries to be in the build-up.
Killer Girl and Fyrfaldigt hurra! WERE  (though of course the less said about Alla mina sorger the better)

For 2025 I would like:

- JACQLINE (heat 5 song 6)
- CAZZI OPEIA (heat 1 song 1)
- Linda Bengtzing, featuring either Magnus Carlsson or The Nicole
- Klara Hammarström (wearing the most heinous item of clothing ever designed and performing a banger so gargantuan she immediately becomes Sweden's Lucy Letby when the key change kicks in)
- Tone Sekelius (performance features an accidental Javine moment)
- Maria Sur, breaking the 'tits or legs' rule (and also performing topless)
- Theoz
- Sarah Dawn Finer ft. Tusse (competitive)
- Shirley, Sonja & Sanna
- Hanna Ferm, with an ode to having a nervous breakdown over a failed perm
- Myra Granberg
- Wiktoria apology tour
- Dolly Style (now with employment rights!)
- The Aninia solo run we ALL DESERVE
- The Dinah Nah rehabilitation run we ALL DESERVE
- Ace Wilder (now looking like Arja Saijonmaa, as she enters the chill wind of her mid-60s)
- Arja Saijonmaa (now looking like Ace Wilder, as she enters the verdant meadows of her early 90s)
- DOCTOR FUCKING ALBAN
- Army of Lovers ft. Gunilla Persson
- oh fuck it Medinah Nah

We must be getting a Måns return, he has nothing else going on!

Fyrfaldigt hurra was the better contest entry, but it is my least favourite Linda MF song and I really don't go back to it. I'd rather listen to Alla mina sorger.

Vanity Vain's performance in Global All Stars felt like an audition for Melodifestivalen (and the song was pretty good by drag race standards)

Linda Pritchard, not seen since she was caught oversinging backing vocals for Michael Rice.

She released this two years ago which was clearly geared towards MF.

But frankly speaking, her husband has become such a prolific international songwriter I'd imagine there's sufficient financial security for her to do things on her own time - whether she wants to give e.g. MF another go, whether she wants to spend more time with her family; a bit like with Agnes but on a different scale, of course.

I like the fact that we won’t have to wait weeks to stream the songs but would prefer they came out straight after each semi rather than the day before. Kinda takes away from the anticipation and excitement doing it like this 🥴

[wogan]They’re killing the thing stone dead![/wogan]

Honestly though, I did kind of brace myself for the worst when going into that article, knowing their propensity to pointlessly tinker with the format instead of doing the harder job of overhauling the song selection, and it could have been a lot worse.

Sticking to last year’s second chance format feeling like pigheadedness but at least it’s been watered down to stop a repeat of last year. I do wonder though if having just four songs up for the vote means they can further undo some of last year’s unpleasantness by allowing them all to perform live on the night?

I do kind of think having the songs premiere on the night is part of what made the whole thing special, but I suppose it’s only a day and a half to avoid listening to the songs if one so chooses.

Is this the first time we can hear the songs beforehand since 2006?

Also, "Min kärlek", "Alla flickor", "Vågar du, vågar jag", "Beat Of Broken Hearts" and "Behöver inte dig idag" were all 4th in their heats :ToneNervous:

So were Fröken Snusk, La La Gunilla and Scarlet this year... :manson:

Some of these "fourth placers we would've lost" are concerning, but I'm going to hope that this leads to a higher quality set of songs, with them needing to be more competitive. :)

So under this new system, the final qualifiers would have been Annika Wickihalder and Albin Tingwall...

Of course they could solve it by resorting to the heats being decided by raw votes, by which metric all of those would have been comfortably top three.

Oh what are they changing now? They’re determined to make this shit more convoluted than Sanremo
