Moopy 20th Birthday Discussion (1 Viewer)

Possibly a poll should go up to see if people want change? I’m not sure that many more candidates will want to step in for what is in essence a pretty thankless task. I’m not really bothered, personally. 🤷‍♀️

It's like the school PTA which is another thankless task. They have to go up for re election each year, it ends up being the same people as no one else turns up, but they still do it!

So you would still be in favour of an election?

@Administrator do we have any updates on a admin/mod election?

Our one had an election recently where the chairman and treasurer positions ended up unallocated. I had a VERY BRIEF moment where I thought about standing (unopposed presumably) seeing as I'm now a full time proud mummy but then realised I'd rather continue watching Countdown at home from my bubble. (I also still don't actually get what a PTA is and does)

I think we should organise a MASSIVE MOOPYMEET for our anniversary and we can recreate CLASSIC POSTS LIVE.

Or I can just force VoR to GRIND lots for our amusement. ONE OF THE TWO.

Every time someone brings it up the idea gets floated but there doesn't seem to be any appetite for anyone else to do the job. We're all open to it but you can't have an election without candidates.

Is it worth creating a thread to ask that question? I can’t recall a thread asking if anyone wanted to be a candidate, and it just gets lost in a daily thread.

This is it, we're a small community - there's a lot of ex-mods and ex-admin who've been there, done that.

I get that, but how are people meant to put themselves forward if we don’t have a thread asking people if they want to be a mod/admin?(We possibly do and I have missed it, and if that’s the case I’ll shut up).

Just wondering as we have two people that have said in this daily thread alone that they would like another mod/admin election.

I agree that I don't think there's much appetite for it at all, but also with Rita's point that we have to give people the opportunity to stand, rather than assume they don't want to because they aren't shouting it out.

Can we just do a proper thread discussing it (instead of it being hidden away in forgotten daily threads), and see how it goes?

And if nobody else does want to do it, perhaps we could just have a vote of confidence rather than an election.

Pulling this out into its own thread so it doesn't get lost.

Once we have an idea of popular opinion, the modmins will arrange the votes required (be they confidence or full elections) and they'll get their own thread.

@Star is on notice to PROROGUE MOOPY. I've forgotten, who is our BLACK ROD!?

Thank you very much for doing as we asked.

Don’t mind another election if there’s fresh blood but absolutely FINE with the current lot.

I am MORE than happy for the current team to continue if they wish. But there's nothing wrong with just gaining favour. Sometimes I feel there are (slightly snide) comments made about it all, and this just puts shut to that. And also, you never know you might get some new blood.

I think this is the way I feel. Everyone does a fine job at the moment but I felt this thread had to be created as it has been mentioned quite a few times now. If it stays the same then we can move on and people don’t feel like they aren’t being listened to.

My main issue currently is the speed with which requests are performed. It can take multiple asks to get a simple split done (for example). Not necessarily a critique of the current team, more that they've lost members.

I know Moopy isn't at peak posting like it was in lockdown and perhaps some might say that suggests the numbers are fine. However for a more efficient mod team numbers are necessary.

I'd hope people would be willing to stand, even just as a perceived duty to the forum.

The current admin team is solid.

I'm not sure we even need an election. Just volunteers.

Although I've always said we should operate a democratic system. But that was more to weed out the trolls. We're more sophisticated now. I imagine we'd all collectively object if certain posters volunteered, but that's unlikely.

I was a mod back in the day

I don’t really have the mentality to be that responsible for moopy anymore. I much prefer slowly destroying it from the outside :disco:

I don’t think being a mod is something that I want to do. I quite enjoy being able to keep my head down whenever people who both have reasonable but completely irreconcilable points are going at each other. That’s before we get into the way that the Moopy straight community are rather over represented on the modmin panel already.

That is not something you should be worried about.

It was made absolutely clear to me earlier this year, in no uncertain terms and without argument from the straight modmin community, that Moopy is, always has been, and always will be, a safe space for gay people and that their rights and feelings will always take precedence over posters who do not fit into that criteria.

:whatami:

Oh if somebody wants to speak up privately they’d like to it by all means do but personally I’ve no reason to see that any changes are needed from those who already do it unless they don’t want to anymore.
