MOOPY ALBUM SYNC LISTENS #8 - KATE BUSH - HOUNDS OF LOVE - 8pm Tuesday 26/05 (2 Viewers)

I was there at the birth
Out of the cloudburst
The head of the tempest
Murderer!
Murder of calm!
Why did I go?
Why did I go?

Fuck!

For some reason the “All you sailors...” section is the one which always sets me RIGHT off. Like now, indeed :(

Then this long chanting section! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is a rerecording of something from Werner Herzog's remake of Nosferatu?

I've looked up the concept of The Ninth Wave whilst I've been listening. It's just possible that I'm going back to track six and listening again once it's finished.

I've always thought she lives in The Morning Fog. Kate confirmed this in 2014. But before then there was some DEBATE about whether she's being born again into a new life, or if she is saved

You won't be disappointed! I have been unravelling new bits and meanings for many years, there is so much packed in them!

The Morning Fog is a lovely ending, and really does work with either interpretation of what happens to her!

In the programme at the tour it talked of "the Ninth Wave, a piece about a woman who is drowning but is saved at the end"

Completely putting an end to 30 years of fan interpretation and discussion. :D
That depends on whether you think saved means 'rescued' or 'goes to heaven'.

The live version of The Morning Fog is very sweet, with the added lyric "I tell my son" sung directly to Bertie of course (he was very much the cutie of the evening).

Of course she lives at the end! "I'll tell my brothers how much I love them" etc.

I seem to remember although my memory of the whole event is HAZY that she SURVIVES in the CONCERT at the end wearing her life jacket and a flashing light (or was that at the beginning).

What an album. It does feel like a career peak. Choosing a favourite Kate Bush album is always going to be a matter of taste but whether or not you think this is Bush at her best, it is unquestionably Bush at her *most*.

Beyond Wuthering Heights I didn't really get into Kate until my mid 20s. Such an easy artist to get into it as there's only about five hours of music!

There's a few candidates kicking about for next week - Erasure's Chorus was one, Pet Shop Boys either Actually or Behaviour was another...what else was there...?
