Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 8: Israel, Portugal & Russia (1 Viewer)

I think it became a free pass to mock Miss Samoylova due to her rather ROTTEN take on certain events. I think.

In which case wishing her to wheel off stage face first (but hoping she'd still qualify) was probably okay. At the time.
The idea of mixing up her staging with Azerbaijan's was actually funny.

Despite being EVIL and a KREMLIN STOOGE, I felt genuinely sorry for her when pics emerged of her completely destraught in the green room. She was on the receiving end of outright hatred from the Russians the whole time - it was far more unpleasant than here actually.

This is my last comment on it but a wheelchair is a necessity not a prop.

5th: Buranovskiye Babushki - Party For Everybody (114pts)

Ah, these evil witches :disco: You just know there was more backstage drama and catfighting going on here than the latter seasons of Sex In The City.

In a delightful glitch in the Russian matrix, this sweet little novelty flew under the radar at a national selection that also featured a duet from Dima Bilan and the homophobic one from t.A.T.u. which was surely intended to be the winner. Perhaps tellingly, the Russia public were never given a say on their Eurovision entry again. :D

That being said, this obviously did very well for them, and probably would have won in a non-Euphoria year. On record it barely even qualifies as a song, but as strictly one-night only novelties go it's fairly irresistible, as long as you don't think too hard about how they'd probably all advocate for having gays burned at the stake if pushed.

1 x 10 (lolly)
2 x 0 (David_5000, Jacques)

The idea of a free vote in Russia is quite the REVELATION. To think I thought the sexy nans were another cynical ploy :side-eye:

There was just 1 old one, who wasn't even singing, just standing there and baking some shit. I wouldn't be surprised if she was deaf.

4th: Sergey Lazarev - Scream (116pts)

Poor old Sergey. I like to think that this rather intense stage show is a manifestation of his emotional breakdown after the 2016 non-win.

The biggest problem this song has, is that it was quite obviously written with the sole intention of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Which is probably true of a lot of Russian entries, but it adds a particularly egregious tinge of desperation to this one, chiefly because it very quickly became obvious that it wasn't going to happen.

In retrospect, he was extremely lucky to match his 3rd place from the his first go-around, albiet with over 120 points fewer than 2016. This spiritually feels more akin to a sad 11th place or something. Not a terrible song, but a fairly pointless one once you strip away its sole reason for being.

2 x 10 (Alla, wurst)
1 x 0 (Win the Game - for real this time)

Scream just didn’t summon any interest for me AT ALL. Which is why I gave it two :)

Sergey seems like a lovely muscley boy with a nice wife, but Scream really wasn't exceptional. 3rd when there was some really standout stuff in the rest of top 10 felt like a bit of a misnomer.

2019 was a cracker wasn't it?

I gave those Beguiling Babushki triple the points I gave that Sergey drivel. And I stand by that.

I can't argue with Sergey's body IF YOU LIKE THAT KIND OF THING, but his face is the epitome of blandly attractive. Just nothing to get excited by.

Scream was a bit nothingy knowing what we could have got from a hot Sergey but I know a lot of casual watchers who rated it highly. To come 3rd when he was on 5th or something felt quite impressive at the time.
