I feel like this deserves it's own thread, because Muni Long has pretty much done what many ageing gays and R&B fans have been asking for for years - a PROPER R&B album. Not trend chasing, not genre chasing, not tik-tok chasing, just the classic sounds we grew up with.
There are so many references here, mostly swooping big production noughties soul music, the likes of Monica and Keyshia Cole and Fantasia spring to mind, some neo-soul and classic soul sounds, but the thing that struck me the most was the close association with 00s Mariah and Mary J Blige.
So all you lambs need to listen to this.
I'm still only on my first full listen so can't RAVE about it yet, but she did an interview with Billboard saying it will be the R&B album of the year and so far I'd say she's in with a shot!
