Music you like, despite you better judgement (1 Viewer)

The entire White Ladder album by David Gray is wonderful.

I’ve barely liked anything since mind

Much of his output is offensive

But Simply Red's "A New Flame" is an all-time favourite

If you don't watch the video where we have to watch brainwashed women fawn over a goblin.

Fake is the only Simply Red track I've got time for. It's absolutely gorgeous and properly miserable pop.

Several songs by David Gray, and of course James Blunt (mostly the Back to Bedlam ones) I really like, no shame about it. Then again I am a girl.

I don't like Ed Sheeran or his songs, but I didn't mind this one on the radio when I was much younger

The Justin Bieber one (same with him) yet I did like this tune

2000-10s boyband ones :D

Never went crazy for One Direction, but Niall seemed nice.

Mostly like because they're 'easy listening'. I suppose lots of Take That too, but I don't feel funny about liking their songs.

Fake is also fabulous - definitely in their top 2

But definitely the miserable pop radio version, rather than the slightly-too-jaunty album version

I'd say that Westlife track was one of the least offensive tracks in this thread. Although I'd have chosen World Of Our Own. And edited Mark out of it.

Oh I love Simply Red. I’d say they can go in this thread.

But their remixes are undeniable and don’t even belong in this thread.

Also Holding Back The Years is one of the greatest songs of the 80s, fight me.

I wanna say Atomic Kitten but definitely not because I have better judgement.

I do forgive Travis a whole lot of objectively asinine bollocks purely because I find Fran Healy’s voice so pretty.

Case in point:

As for Westlife, as I’ve argued many times before, this is clearly their best/funniest hit.

I legitimately detest Flying Without Wings

But I can tolerate World Of Our Own. And on a schmaltzy day, maybe even If I Let You Go.

I remember liking If I Let You Go when it came out in a Backstreet Boys ripoff kinda way. I couldn't listen to any it now, it all feels so incredibly cynical and manufactured. And not just in a pop band kind of way, but in a marketed to within an inch of its life kind of way. They're utterly soulless for a band with 2 really good voices

Mr Brightside STILL gets me going any time I hear it. It’s my Don’t Stop Believing

A little confused as to why they're so great for ~65% of these haha. There's definitely more, depends on generation for some.

In highschool too many of them loved Mr Brightside, Hey Soul Sister, and the dreaded Shape of You.

But September by Earth, Wind and Fire just about everyone likes. 😊🎶

I fucking despise Mr Brightside with all of my heart and soul

See also I Predict A Riot, Chelsea Dagger and pretty much every tuneless guitar song that pretty much killed rock music dead in the noughties

Also while we're on Indie landfill, this is a song I fucking love. It's not despite my better judgement, but I suspect it's very much against Moopy's.

I know she knows I'm not from New Oscott :disco:
