Nerina Pallot : ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Doing’ (new album) (1 Viewer)

I’ve listened to this four times (I think) and it really does reveal more with each listen. I agree with what @funky says but I’d say there’s also a lot of little nods to her back catalogue overall. However, the spirit of ‘Stay Lucky’ does linger in several of the songs. I’d say several are clearly a signpost of being created in lockdown lyrically.

My early faves are ‘Alice At The Beach’, ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Doing’, ‘Only The Old Songs’, ‘The Way We Are’, ‘Fun’ and ‘Chanson’

Oh and she replied to me on Twitter with a laughing emoji and kiss so scores additional points on her already high good human being score.

I gave this a listen last night. First listen very positive. Agree there is definitely some Elton here (hello Only The Old Songs) but I thought the core of the album was very 70s AOR/yacht.

So I'm a bit over the promo singles already, but I am LOVING "Master Builder", "Mama" and in particular "The Way We Are". All gorgeous and very 70s tastic.

I think she genuinely doesn’t care about commercial success these days other than doing well enough to continue making music for a living. She seemed very content her first run sold out. She’s always apologetic if she feels like she’s flogging stuff and she was very low key in the build up to this.

Do I like it? Yes! Have I been hammering it with plays? No, but I will play it again later.

I think I haven’t been going back to it it as much as I would have imagined because she’s revisiting quite a lot of old ground musically that may have been covered better or equally well before by her, taking away a bit of the urgency to listen to these songs. I think much of it will still sound great live though.

Weren’t @Iguana and @Tisch going to see La Pallot recently? How was it loves?
Really enjoyable! Some songs from the past that I don't think she's done that often (Put Your Hands Up, Daphne and Apollo)

Not that she's particularly known for it, but her onstage banter felt a bit awkward and she didn't seem all that relaxed when she wasn't signing.
