Sorry if this has a thread already, but I couldn't see one.

STUN GORGEOUS amazing new song out today from the Empress of Japanese pop -

Love the sax :disco: The artwork & Spotify video seem to suggest ICELAND* is a key influence, which always bodes well :disco: I think this could possibly end up as one of her best songs EVER btw, it's that good. "Can you satisfy me?" to the sound of bongo drums INDEED :disco:

There was also recent track Time, which has a unique structure and is more uptempo -

PERCHED for this album. She seems to be having a real creative MOMENT, and these two tracks are tonally quite similar to the legendary EXODUS album :disco:

*The country, not the SHOP!

OOH lovely.

I was only listening to Exodus the other day. :disco:

Can’t wait to listen - I’ve been hammering “Beautiful World” all year - I nearly entered it in Festival de Soldi but I couldn’t BEAR the idea of these heathens tearing it shreds

Oh goodness, a thread about a Japanese artist :disco: with replies! :disco:

I’m a bit hot and cold about Utada, she can still make great stuff but the new single (the first one you posted) isn’t really doing it for me. “Time” is closer, quite classic Utada.

sorry ladies, Exodus is a real blip in her discog, even the other English album is totally different (total vanilla US RnB).

I have a soft spot for the Ultra Blue album though

I had Exodus on in the car today. EXCITED for this. Listened to a couple of newer tracks some weeks ago and it feels SO different to her other stuff.

Is the album out yet @wurst? The new stuff is worth sticking with? She really has one of my favourite voices.

I properly properly love the new single. I think it’s amazing. Such a non-traditional song structure with saxes, bongos and a sexy English language section :disco:

I guess it’s what you want from Utada, as she can really float all over the shop. The two new tracks seem more banshee/experimental Utada which being a HUGE EXODUS fan is great for me :disco: I think fans of her more traditional stuff probably won’t be so into these new tracks?

NO IDEA when the album is out, or if one will ever come :D

but i gag for This Is The One too, @Diddy (and plenty of the Japanese stuff too obvs)

I wouldn’t say I dislike TITO but it was certainly a bit of a letdown after Exodus, I thought it was like some generic late 00s RnB artist like Shontelle or something. I liked “Apple & Cinnamon” though

I am almost the TOTAL OPPOSITE in my UTADA opinions, which I think is quite common across the internet :D

I live for EXODUS, and the new single. HATED that bland follow up English language album :D

eh that’s what I think too! (A bit too soon for the new single for me)

Did you listen to the last album Hatsukoi? That illustrates my feelings a bit - some lovely stuff but often descending into ethereal noodling that I’m not that into

@Diddy, 今夜のことは誰にも言わない is going to be your new sultry phrase, am I right

Time is really great. I need a bit more time with the new one yet.

Heart Station is one of my favourite albums in a foreign language, up there with Namie's PLAY. Such a gorgeous, calming, immaculately produced and hyper melodic piece of work. I want to properly dive into Deep River next.

have you tried Ultra Blue (the one between Heart Station and Exodus)?

I’m gagged that people are talking about Japanese music on here finally :disco:
MINNA SAIKOU ARIGATOU! KA-KA-KA-KAWAII
