Paris 2024 - Day 11 (Tue 6 August) (1 Viewer)

Oh, Kerr nearly missed out on even getting the silver there.

Is the steeplechase an ancient event that they just keep on doing because it's tradition?

It’s been in every Olympics since 1900. The race was developed in the 19th century.

Why do they use hurdles that look like they could do you serious damage?

And it must be annoying to have to build a water pond bit just on an athletics track just for this one race.

I’m not sure the race would work with so many people sharing a normal collapsible hurdle. Especially with multiple laps.

Are you allowed to skip the water jump by staying on the proper track? But if you do that, the downside is, it's further to run. That's an interesting rule they could bring in if they wanted to.

Also, are you allowed to run around the hurdles on the main track considering they only cover a few of the lanes? Is there anything in the rules that says you can't?

You get disqualified if you don’t go over every hurdle and every water pit.

According to World Athletics:

False starts and disqualification

Starting blocks are not used for the 3000m steeplechase, so false starts are identified through visual observation.

As with other middle and long-distance running events, athletes are disqualified immediately after a false start in the 3000m steeplechase. Additionally, athletes may also be disqualified if they fail to clear a barrier or water jump, or bypass an obstacle completely.

How many hurdles are there in the 3000m steeplechase?

The 3000m steeplechase consists of 28 fixed barriers and seven water jumps, for a total of 35 obstacles. The obstacles can be hurdled or stepped on and cannot be bypassed.

The barriers and water jumps in the 3000m steeplechase are fixed and don’t fall over. As a result, athletes can choose to jump over the barriers or step on them to get a longer jump.

Judging by the hot GB triple jumper in the sweatshirt walking past Neita in that interview, I’m guessing he didn’t medal.

Why is the track a lavender colour?

What happened to the traditional maroon colour?

French bollocks:

Ultimately, they picked purple for the Stade de France track as a reference to the lavender fields of the south of France, where cities such as Nice and Marseille are hosting some Olympic events. "We wanted to have a colour palette that was, above all, sophisticated," said Yvinec.

It seems Dina and Daryll just do not acknowledge each other unless they really can't avoid it :D

Anyway they both ran well, but not quite enough. Dina looked great off the bend again. Hopefully they can do something special in the relay.

That was the most enjoyable boxing match I’ve watched all Olympics.

FUCK’S SAKE.

That’s why I don’t watch this sport.

Traditional inexplicable scoring in the boxing then.

I will note that a 71kg bronze medal sounds like it will be too heavy to hang around his neck.

The Taiwanese boxer lost her match though, so it won't be an all-controvetial final. It would have been rather hilarious to read the bile. .
Actually, I don’t think that this is right. The Taiwanese boxer in Khelif’s weight category who lost in the semi final isn’t the controversial one. She boxes at 57kg and hasn’t had her semi final yet.

Ah, fair enough. I wasn't paying that much attention. I had it on in the background and assumed given it was on straight after Khelif's match and it was a Taiwanese fighter.
